Angel's Gift

Name: Anonymous 2008-07-20 1:49

First off, I have been writing this book, Angel's Gift, for about a year and a half now, and this is just the first chapter. It's the first book in a series of three, and I've done about 150 pages or so which is 3/4 of the way done with the first book. I know I'm a little far into it but any constructive criticism would still be appreciated (if you can find anything), but otherwise just enjoy this treet.

Chapter 1: Reminiscence I

"Damn... what time is it?" I crawled out of the place I was sleeping and looked for a way out of my living place so that I could look at the sky. The sky shined very dimly. I discerned by looking at the orange red sky that it was around 7 am. My living place wasn't really all that great. It was a small train cart by the train station graveyard along with other trains. The train cart wasn't greatly decorated and neither were there any ornaments in the cart. It was just a few of my belongings, food, and a hay stack. The cart was full of rust and tiny little bugs, which I didn't mind very much. My belongings weren't very glamorous and flashy. It was just a book bag with books, notebook spirals, pens and pencils, and clothes. My daily life would be spent going to school in the morning then come back to the train station and do some training. Training wasn't difficult rather it was just long. My morning at school wouldn't be troublesome since I would breeze through it. Books, homework, worksheets, and useless things thrown at my face and I would have to do all of them. The work wasn't really troublesome since it was easy for me. But others had a hard time going through all the work passed out. I can imagine their moaning and griping faces as they slowly finish their work. And even after they finish their work they had more stuff to do. The school I go to isn't a highly acknowledged genius school. However, unlike other students I’m the only one that's 17 years old that's a Sophomore of Tenerai University. Tenerai is an average school but it specializes in chemistry and other types of science. My afternoon would start after school was over around 5 pm and would last until 10 pm at night. Training would consist of physical exercise and studying chemical formulas and compounds as well as the elements of nature.
It's not known to the world yet but I'm actually a Synthesizer. A Synthesizer is a user of chemistry and magic, in a way. It's alchemy to the next level. We follow the chemical law of equivalent trade where mass is not lost in order to form a new object from an old material. However, in chemistry that's not true as part of the mass of an old material is used up as energy and released as heat. That is the fundamental law of Chemistry and Alchemy. Synthesis is a different method. By combining spiritual forces in one's body and an object, a person is able to utilize the elements of the world around him or her and create something in a different form or shape. Decomposition is not, however, all about putting things together as the name implies. Rather it has the ability to take things apart and just the end there. Alchemy has 2 parts when forming something. The first step is the decomposition method where it takes a material and breaks it apart. The second step is reconstruction where the broken down material is created into something new. In Synthesis, the steps can be made into just one so that it follows the 2-step physical change, or into 1-step decomposition.

Angels are very unique and very rare in the world. They are from ancient times since the beginning of creations. It was said that once a war waged between Angels and humans. Angels were the servants of god, however, 1/3 of the Angels rebelled and fell with Lucifer, the Devil. However, the Angels were not sent to Hell at first rather they were put to earth. These Angels were not all evil from heart. Some were good and contributed positive factors to the world. However, as some of the evil angels began to wreak havoc upon the world the angels were discriminated against and eventually a great war began. This war had many sacrifices and casualties. At last when the war had ended the angels were finally cast into Hell where they would be damned for eternity. Though the Angels were gone, they would leave a trace of their existence behind through women. It is said that Angels fell in love with human women. And as time went on the women's blood carried the powers of an Angel. Those born with the blood of Angel powers and awakened them would be called Synthesizers. And eventually that's how Synthesizers came to being. If this case is true then that must mean I was one of the long lines of angel descendants and am half angel, half human. However, this is just an old story told by generations of the past.
"Agh...." Kayah screamed. He was shaking and moving around the train frantically. He was shivering from the tip of his toes to the top of his head. He could not stop moving around. While he moved he was shoving himself to the wall while his hands clanged onto his head, perhaps to protect himself from injury. His eyes twitched and started to move his body in an odd motion. Kayah was suffering from his memories. Although he had a strong and an unyielding mind, Kayah had a weakness called memories and emotions. Kayah had left behind his past, however, it would always come back to haunt him to think about the one day where his life was ruined. And the memories would then exploit his ultimate weakness, emotions. Kayah banged all over the train cart walls and even started to jump around. His body still shaking and shivering seemed as though it could not handle any more trauma. However, those symptoms would be the beginning of his journey to his memories. His memories flashed from one scene to another and back to the same scene randomly skipping around trying to reveal something to him…

"Damn..... Damn....." Kayah was on his side lying down. One eye open and the other closed as he was blinded by the blood that was covering his face. Kayah was drenched with water that was now covering the floor from the hard rain that was pouring from the sky. Kayah lied there repeatedly cursing to himself. Half of his left arm was missing and was torn off; it was dripping blood and soaked with water which was agonizing Kayah with the purifying contents of the water mixing with his innards of his body from the destroyed arm. It was an excruciating pain. Kayah lying on the ground was motionless and looked as though he was dead, but he wasn’t. His eyes were only fixed on one thing that was in front of him. A girl with a gash that started from her shoulder across the chest to her waist. The fatal would had almost immobilized the girl and left her motionless. The girl still in her white school uniform was no longer white but now darkened with the color of death. Her blood had soaked into her shirt and skirt; her eyes started to lose color gazing through space and time. She had the composure of a dead woman. Even though she looked dead Kayah knew that she was still alive. Something from his spirit told him, he wasn't going to die and neither was she, not yet.
"Yuli, Yuli... Don't die, not yet." I whispered. I don't think my voice is going to make it to her considering this hard downpour is blocking out all weak noises. The rain didn't block out the annoying laughter and voice that was behind me. Seraph, a boy of my age, 13, led a terrorist organization in Union. I thought that I had killed him during my last mission… but I guess I was wrong…

"Hello there, Kayah, I came to visit you for a bit. How are you?" Seraph greeted me happily. The smile on him seemed deadly… and fake. He had the face of a scheming cat and the innocence of a child all at the same time.
"What do you want from me? Why are you here? Didn't I kill you before?" I shouted at him demanding answers. I was in front of a friend. I was stretching out my left arm in front of her so that she'll be protected from harm. Yuli was everything to me. Just then, it started to rain.
"Well, Kayah of course you killed me before. How can I forget that? But to tell you the truth you technically killed me; the me that you destroyed was actually a doll. So I technically was killed and not killed." He laughed in the most sickening way possible. He was cackling and smiling while having his head shot up at the sky. Seraph was clothed in a dark black trench coat with a black tuxedo underneath it as if he was going to a party soon. "I just came to see you and your friend behind you. Hey, Yuli, how about you come out and show me your face?" He was asking friendly, and it was very odd that he would know the name of someone that he had never met in my life. I had known Yuli nearly my whole life and always new her acquaintances. I had never met Seraph. Seraph was a person that I had seen once and that was when I had "killed" him.

"I don’t think you're supposed to be here right now Yuli. I mean, they told me you're not supposed to be too close to me now." I explained to her in the best way possible without hurting her feelings. I think she also realized that she wasn't supposed to be with me also. I was standing inside my room and she was standing outside of my door and we were just standing there waiting for one of us to talk. It was around midnight, and it was quite dark. After standing for a while I eventually sighed and said, "*sigh* Fine, let's go for a walk, you can talk to me all you want." Yuli and I started to walk to the park near my dormitory. She and I were both part of the military. We were special because it's a law to have someone so young be in the army. We were an exception and both of us were part of the UHO, or the United Holy Organization. For as long as I can remember she and I were always together. When we were kids she and I just wandered around the parks in the military base and just look at the clouds in the sky. Every time we would do that the sky would be perfectly clear with its blue ocean above our head and its being floating around puffing bigger and smaller into various shapes. When I became 11, I became part of the SCA, or the Security and Covert Agency. I was a rookie assassin and was assigned missions from the day I was inducted into the organization. I quickly rose the ranks to being one of the elite assassins. I had quick reflexes, superior tactical thinking, and above all else, I had motivation to complete missions. I couldn't careless how I executed the missions as long as I came back alive in order to be at peace again with Yuli. My missions ranged from, recon to assassinations. All of which involved high risks and a very low chance of survival, nonetheless, I always came back home fine. Those who worked with me would always tell me that I had demon eyes whenever I would kill someone or had hostile feelings. My blue clear eyes would turn blood red with hostility and danger. When I was part of the SCA, Yuli remained in UHO and became a scientist and researcher. We were known throughout the base as Child Prodigies. Though I doubt that we were that intelligent, we were still nothing compared to the adults as they are much more wise, experienced, and stronger than we are.

"So Kayah, how does it feel to have the power you possess still not awaken yet? How does it feel to do nothing when you possess the potential save the girl you love?" Seraph taunted me in the most annoying way possible. He would circle around me and point around as he made cruel and cold remarks about my "power". I couldn't move, attack, I barely even had the energy to whisper to Yuli.

"Hey, what did you want to talk to me about?" I wondered and asked Yuli what was going on. She didn't say anything. We just kept walking until we finally arrived at the park. I found a bench where we could both sit down. The sky was dark but the area was illuminated by the white light from the moon. It was a full moon too so there was plenty of light going around the dark park. We both sat on the white bench and she began to speak.
"I believe that it's time for me to leave and for you to see your power." As soon as Yuli had said this, we were quickly surprised and ambushed by Seraph. He stood in front of me well dressed, and even though his appearance wasn’t threatening, his mere presence seemed to be dangerous.
"Hello there, Kayah, I came to visit you for a bit. How are you?"
"What do you want from me? Why are you here? Didn't I kill you before?"
"Well, Kayah of course you killed me before. How can I forget that? But to tell you the truth you technically killed a part of me. It was a doll of me that you destroyed. So I technically was killed and not killed. I just came to see you and your friend behind you. Hey, Yuli, how about you come out and show me your face?"
We exchanged words continually demanding our own needs. Finally he said,...
"Yuli, won’t you come back?" Seraph had put his hand out front of him as if he was asking for Yuli's hand in return. Seraph was practically asking to dance with her. "No? Alright then I guess I have no choice but to persuade you!" Suddenly his open hand clenched into a fist and in his hand tightly he began to materialize a sword of light blue crystalline color. He charged toward me with enraged eyes ready to kill. His target, was me. "How about I cut up your friend here, huh?!" I spread out my arms far and wide so Seraph wouldn’t pass me and proceed to Yuli. Then suddenly I felt a grip in my left arm and I looked behind. Yuli was pushing herself forward and putting me aside. I began to tilt right and somewhat lose my balance. She was now in front of me in range of Seraph’s incoming attack. Grabbing my arm in order to push me aside was supposed to have put me out of harm’s way, but Seraph's deadly sword had sliced my left arm off and had created a severe wound on Yuli. Yuli stood still for a few seconds then slowly dropped to the floor forward. She didn't scream, she didn't even make a noise. Not even a grunt. Suddenly, after realizing my arm was gone, I was in extreme pain and started to scream.
"ARRGGG!!! Damn you! SERAPH!!!" I screamed and began to jump for Seraph when he quickly kicked me across the face resulting in me flying across the park opposite of where Yuli was. My body was no longer able to move now. I didn’t have the strength to move… And she couldn't move either. Seraph was walking towards me; I could hear his wet footsteps from the rain but I couldn't see him because he was behind me. He was approaching me slowly just like death that slowly began to creep up next to me.
"So Kayah, how does it feel to have the power you possess still not awaken yet? How does it feel to do nothing when you possess the potential save the girl you love? Would you.... power.... you..... br...." I couldn't hear anymore, I shut my eyes, and my mind went blank. I was dying. Slowly, very slowly, but surely I knew I was dying. I didn’t have the power to save, to hear, I didn’t even have the energy to think. Everything was growing dark; actually it felt like nothing… Everything was becoming nothing…
Then I heard something in my head.... it was a mild soft voice. It was Yuli's voice. “It's not your time to die. You have a reason to live in this world and I will give you a gift to help your cause and help you grow stronger to find your reason. Don't ever give up.... I'm always with you, no matter where you are." The voice then suddenly faded away and everything went black again. The white light I heard and saw was now gone. Darkness, I would live in a blackened world of nothingness, forever, but if I’m to live in darkness how will that make me live? I want to live.. I couldn’t die… isn’t it actually too early for me to die?... this isn’t over… it can’t be…
Then I suddenly heard another voice. One voice with 2 words. It was a loud scream.
"ETERNAL DARKNESS!"
By the time I woke up my body was still lying in the same place where I had fallen unconscious. My left arm was still missing and the battle scars were present but I was no longer bleeding. In front of me I saw Yuli. She was still injured. "Yuli!" I shouted and ran for her. I slid across the wet ground and grabbed her. I placed her body over my knee and picked her upper body up with my remaining arm. She was glowing and it seemed as she dematerializing. She was giving off tiny glowing fireflies. I was crying hoping she wouldn't die, but at the time it seemed inevitable that she would die. She was disappearing right before my eyes. Her last words were at the time, "Don't ever give up, I'm always with you. Your light is my light and your darkness is my darkness. Never lose sight of what's yours and what belongs to others. Bye-.. Bye...” Those were the last words I remember her saying. I was crying because of the sky, I was crying because of my arm, and I was crying because of my loss. The loss of something that was precious to me and everything to me. I sat there holding and grasping Yuli with my arm endlessly crying. It seemed as though the sky was crying also as it was still raining. It felt sorrow for my dearly beloved as it showered water upon me, Yuli, and the world as another life had been taken away from this world. I sat and cried, and cried, and cried, until I was no longer conscious.
