Good fantasy/magical books?

Name: Anonymous 2008-05-06 13:53

I just started a new job which gives me tons of free time (as in 6 hours or so a night) to basically just slack off and do whatever I want as long as I answer the phone.  The only fantasy I've read is Tolkien (which is great) and I read some of the Potter stuff when I was in my teens (which suck, after trying to go back and read it again).  What are some other good universes/book series to read?

C.J. Cherryh's books starting with Fortress in the Eye of Time are good. You should read Lloyd Alexander's Chronicles of Prydain. They're actually for young people, but since you missed them back then and they are good, I recommend reading them now. I enjoyed reading Raymond E. Feist's books, although his skill with words is iffy. I also enjoyed the Wheel of Time series.
