Has anyone here read Neal Stephenson's The Baroque Cycle (Quicksilver, The Confusion, The System of the World)? If so, what did you think?
I just began The Confusion, and I'm simultaneously awed and daunted by the sheer enormity of the task Stephenson undertook in researching and writing these books- part epic, world-spanning adventure, and part treatise on 17th-18th-century religion, politics, science, economics, and culture. The anachronistic ironies are especially amusing; one of my favorite parts is when Daniel unwittingly names New York.
