Well, they certainly are similar to each other. There isn't much kung-fu going there indeed. He even had a princess, whose maids all carried swords and were trained in using them, and even that didn't lead to some awesome ninja flip-outs, sadly. But I was talking about mass battles. After all, the whole thing was intended to be epic shit, all those 500,000 armies clashing against 800,000 armies and everything. No place for kung-fu there, he must've though.
