Anybody have Darkly Dreaming Dexter series? I hear the first two are good, but the third is a real turd.

I just got into the TV show, and I'm wanting to check out the books before I go farther.

book are progressively worse, the first is goodish, the second ok, the third is pretty bad.

I read the first one and thought it was awful.  the concept is interesting but the writing is horrible.  It seems like at least once every page Dexter points out that he has no emotions, like "If I were normal I would feel this right now, but I have no emotions so I fake it instead."  The writer just uses Dexter's narration to tell you that sort of thing instead of showing it through action.  Its like the writer is a 15 year old that read American Psycho and is trying to emulate that.  Or maybe I just have a different taste for literature.

The first two are cool. The third decides that Dexter's Dark Passenger isn't just a metaphore for his dark side, but an actual spritual entity posessing sociopaths, whose father is the God Moloch.

I am not shitting you, that's the plot of the third book. Dexter uncovers the evil cult of Dark-Passengers and their God Moloch.

Actually, that sounds pretty cool.

I'm about 4 chapters from the end of the first one, and provided it doesn't take a nosedive, it's been really good in my opinion. I guess i might be enjoying it more than the average person because i have a bit of a fascination with serial killers, but i'd still reccommend it.

I agree with >>3
a bit though, Lindsay does re-iterate the whole 'I have no emotions' thing a couple times too many for my liking.

Don't change these.
