Does anybody buy used books online? Anything I should know before I attempt it?

Just buy from stores that sell through trusted websites like Amazon, and make sure to check their rating, it should be higher than 90.
I've got plenty of good books for cheap that way.

Ive bought dozens of used books cheap on Amazon, but it has its drawbacks. I for one, despise those book club hardcovers that are about an inch or two shorter than regular hardcovers; they just make my collection look all uneven and unsightly when they go on the shelf. With Amazon it's very hard to know for sure which edition of a book you're getting, because the picture is only of the one that Amazon is selling; the indivisual sellers will just put books of the same name under there but in a different edition. And sometimes they come without dust jacket and shit. I can be annoying, but really it's worth it for the 90% discount.

I've bought some twenty-odd books through Abebooks, and it was like shopping at any online retail store. Only thing that bothered me a bit was that one vendor clearly stored his or her books in a stuffy storageroom judging from the faint smell, but otherwise I'm perfectly satisfied.

1. Get off the computer.
2. Find a used book store.
3. Look at the books before you buy them.
4. ???
5. PROFIT!
Shit yeah, I live across the street from one. The only downside is that I feel as though I HAVE to buy the books I want there the moment I see them, lest someone buy it before me.
I don't really care so much for the way they buy books from people, though. To call it a rip-off is something of an injustice.
I guess it's okay though, because I bought a book from them for about seven dollars that was going for a little more than ten times that on the interwebs.

Believe you me, if there were a used book store within an hours drive of me Id be all over it. For now Amazon will have to do though.
