I beg to differ. His plot is cribbed from a number of other sources, most gallingly the brilliant Foucault's Pendulum; his prose is sensationalist and is much more suitable for a screenplay than a book; his characters are flat and cliched, especially his female leads.
Also, his insistence that everything in all of his books is 100% true is just laughable.
If you said he was an entertaining author, I might be tempted to give that to you; but well? Dan Brown is the Big Mac of literary fare: accessible, profitable, definitely not a taste worth acquiring, and very bad for you if regularly consumed.
he doesn't claim that his books are 100% true, he has a page in the beginning were he in fact lists all the facts. I don't think his books are that great at all of them seem to follow the same formulaic writing.
Dan Brown is deep if you think the puddle your dog made in the kitchen this morning was the size of the Atlantic. Movie is only worth it for the combo of Bettany and weapons (nom nom nom - I is a girl, k?).

Dan Brown's plots are lifted from much better books, his characters are at worst 2D and entirely boring, at best utterly moronic despite supposedly being intelligent and educated, his constant deus ex machinas are wearing... and even if it was the best writing in the world (which it is not. Not by a long way) it would still be a tired cliche with religion thrown in. Put that shit through a shredder and find something written by a trained monkey. I doubt you'll find much difference.

He doesn't even writes good fanfic. His lead male lead characters are Gary-Stus. If Brown were female his books would be slapped with an adventure cover which features a buxom lass and chesty laddie and thrown into the romance section.
It's just really bad writing. I can't believe that his books even created a *conversation*, let alone controversy.

But he does have amazing opening paragraphs. Amazing because it's the same damn paragraph for every book.
