Books that will make me shit bricks...

...leave me in complete awe of the oddity that it presents to me and be a total, satisfyingly unsatisfying mindfuck.

Ok, so I'm going to the library tomorrow to return some books and I want to get some new stuff while I'm there.
Lately, I've been obsessed with bloop(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloop) and other such types of phenomena.
I'm going to pick up some Cthulhu books, but is there any other well-developed universe of novels that I can get into?
I know it's really vague, but I guess I just want to read some well-developed, good novels based on natural phenomena that may or may not have actually happened and then explaining the phenomena and bringing them into the real-world.

I finished and really loved House of Leaves. I didn't care for the style, or even the book itself, but the concept is bri/x/-worthy.

I'm trying to check my library's online catalogue, but I can't think of anything decent to look up in terms of search terms.
Lovecraft is the only author I can think of who has created a rich, in-depth mythos based on a bri/x/-inducing idea.
So I'm either extremely newb at this reading thing, or no other books within this type of this fiction exists.

I'm sorry this thread isn't about harry potter, but some of us here actually like to read books, not just get spoilers for next year's shitty fantasy movies.

Not sure if it'll make you shit bricks, but JS Le Fanu is always a good bet.

"Mindfuck" only brings up visions of the "Illuminatus!" trilogy.  If that's not your speed, consider obtaining "Three Fisted Tales", which is a set of stories set in the SubGenius mythos.

Neal Stephenson's older novels are also fairly good at hardening up your colon.  Try also Bruce Sterling's "Schismatrix" collection.  You can't beat "constant future shock" for sheer colonic assault.

Don't change these.
