I didn't like it on the first try, because the only thing I'd read of Gaiman before was Good Omens, so I had certain preconceptions, and American Gods turned out not to be funny at all.

Then I tried reading it again some time later, and I realized that the book wasn't particularly funny, but that it was beautiful.
