The Belgariad

Long story short, I've been given the first book of the Belgariad (Pawn of Prophecy) by my grandfather. Is it worth reading? The series looks pretty long, and I don't want to get started on the series if it's crappy.

It's "fantasy light". Probably enjoyable enough to give it a shot if you haven't read much fantasy yet, just fancy something light for a change, and/or are still in your teens. Don't expect anything deep and/or thought-provoking, though.
Oh, and you probably want to steer clear of his other works, too - at least if it's your own money you'd spend.
