Really? I've never seen any threads under this board about them. I've only read some of the Drizzt stuff, which was okay, but Drizzt was the only character I really liked, the others were to "look at me, I'm doing this for no reason other than my character alignment tells me to." But I really did like the War of the Spider Queen series. Now I'm trying to find another Realms book that has characters equally as good as those ones.

Read the Cleric Quintet. Written by Salvatore, but with different characters in a different place in the world.

cleric quintet is pretty good
shadows of doom is great, as is spellfire. ed greenwood writes the best of all
i also really enjoyed the icewind dale series, pool of radiance/darkness/twilight, azure bonds, and darkwalker of moonshae
the drizzt do'urden books (the legacy, siege of darkness) are fine too
one small gem i also have is a collection of short stories by popular fg authors, called realms of valor. recommended

I read the books all the time, I really liked the windwalker series(i think thats the series name at least, heh)
I just finished the 1st book of the Lady penitent series, which happens right after war of the spider queen series. (Great ending on this one)

Yeah, I loved the War of the Spider Queen series, and my girlfriend's reading it now. She's right at the fight between Jeggred and Ryld. I was also thinking about getting Sacrafice of the Widow and the Erevis Cale trilogy.

I've read some of the Erevis Cale trilogy, but id start with The halls of Stormweather. Highly suggest it though :).
If you really liked the war of the spider queen, sacrifice of the widow is a great one, and the second book will be coming out in september.
Wish i had the heart to tell you the ending, its so awesome.

Is Halls of Stormweather the prequel or something?

hmm, kinda, the halls of stormweather is a book with stories of all the members of the family that erevis served, the following book is more primarily focused on cale, then it just goes on that way. Regardless, It all starts at the halls of stormweather. :)

Avatar SERIES. The trilogy is nothing without Prince of Lies and Crucible: The Trial of Cyric the Mad to wrap things up. Besides, Prince of Lies is the story of the Cyrinishad, and thusly the most amazing and insightful of all of the books, as well as cleverly written with an unreliable narrarator. Easily my favourite Forgotten Realms books.
Beyond those, The Dark Elf trilogy was okay, the Icewind Dale Trilogy is an overhyped piece of shit. It's very uninspired and bland. Cormyr, and pretty much anything by Ed Greenwood is nice. Typically, the newer books suck, though I've heard some good things about the "The Fighters" series.
Also, avoid the Baldur's Gate books like the plague. God damn...

yeah, i just couldnt read Crucible: The trial of cyric the mad. Couldnt stand the style of writing.
The fighter's series was good except for one of the books, my favorite being The master of chains.
On that note, all of the Priests, the Wizards and the Rogues books are very good as well.(all of the fighters, priests, wizards, and rogues books have NOTHING to do with eachother, each book is individual.)
For now, my favorite author would be Lisa Smedman. Richard Lee Byers is up there too, though. I've never read the Baldur's Gate books though.

Sorry for lack of indention on paragraphs in last post. Reposting with indention so people can actually read it without saying tl;dr.

Paul S. Kemp is pretty good, too. The Erevis Cale trilogy (at least the first two books) are really good and very refreshing considering the Icewind Dale trilogy, which I disliked almost as much as The Black Jewels trilogy. Now I wanna see Cale beat Drizzt's goody-goody ass into the ground.

Eh, i liked both of them, but as far as combat, Drizzt is my favorite. Would be an epic battle, most definantly.

War of The Spider Queen is a very nice series
I must say that I dislike Ed Greenwood's style of writing, though I quite liked his books when I was younger (like 13-16) Cormyr; A Novel is quite good though.
The avatar series is quite good, you don't have to read crucible to finish off the series, Prince of Lies is good enough.
For some reason I also quite like The City of Ravens.
