Animal Farm is a critical view of communism, a system of government which SAYS that all should be treated equally, but where the ruling class usually ends up getting treated MUCH better than the rest of the population, and eventually oppresses the population they initially set out to liberate.
We see the animals band together for freedom and equality, and throw out the evil humans, under the banner of "Four legs good, two legs bad." As time goes on, the pigs become the ruling class, we see them turn against each other as they fight internally for power. The lie is even spread that one pig, formerly a brave member of the group, is actually evil and has caused trouble and fled like the coward he allegedly always has been.
In the final crux of the story, we see the pigs become that which they initially rose up against, donning clothes, living in the farmhouse and changing the saying in the barn to "Four legs good, two legs better".
Now look up history of Josef Stalin, and learn how his regime did pretty much the same thing to the Russian people, with him and his cabinet in the role of the pigs.
Does that explain things?
