I recommend 1984 to every American(you'll know why when you finish), once you finish compare it to your daily life then like everyone else who reads it stand back and shout "OMFG HE WAS RIGHT!!!!!!!" Minitrue is FOXnews for example
it will definitely make you a better human

Note: if you are suffering from depression you should probably give this a miss because it might push you over the edge.

Also i realize the irony in asking Americans to read so don't point it out thanks.

I think the movie Groundhog Day is more relevant to my daily life.

Great, another bloody "America is nazi, george bush is Hitler" bullshit spouter.

I much preferred Brave New World to 1984. And people against doing shit to embryos should wank over the book.

if USA was like 1984 this whole website would not exist

The US definitely isn't 1984.

However, there are interesting parallels with 1984's proles. Are you entertained?

though we are slowly progressing to it

WHATS UP PATRIOT ACT

Name: Anonymous 2007-04-09 11:21 ID:65weixkJ

1984 reflects our society very well. Except ours happens to be more complex. Instead of having things simply organized by the government into a controlling society, we have more extensive means of control.

We have credit scores and advertising instead of Big Brother. The government doesn't need to keep tabs on you here for the most part because you have a credit file that follows you around for the rest of your life that tells anyone that matters everything about you.

Crimestop: "The faculty of stopping short, as though by instinct, at the threshold of any dangerous thought. It includes the power of not grasping analogies, of failing to perceive logical errors, of misunderstanding the simplest arguments if they are inimical to Ingsoc, and of being bored or repelled by any train of thought which is capable of leading in a heretical direction. In short....protective stupidity."

tl;dr, MTV. How many kids grow up with no interest in global matters or their own rights so long as the OC is there to entertain them and let them observe passively instead of participate actively?

And everyone knows freedom of speech doesn't matter two fucks. Honestly, in America you can say just about anything you want and you wont be persecuted. However, that doesn't really help if distribution of speech drowns you out. You'll never get your message out on mass media and working underground you reach a very small base.

I don't disagree with your post i.e. I'M NOT FLAMING.  Well... I am a fag...

anyways

Don't you think that people are far too concerned about "making a difference" in the world and being heard?  Why does that stuff even matter.  What is the egotistical need to personally fix everything and belief that our opinions count so much in the large scale?

Isn't it better just to focus on our own problems and tend our gardens and such?

I totally agree and am surprised that more people don't understand this simple concept...

Name: Anonymous 2007-04-12 2:49 ID:zcbTS/bJ

Me too. I actually get a bit pissed off when some people in my country start yelling at the government that they should get more involved in world affairs. Why? Because our country should show it's an important power on the world stage!

What the fuck? My country is some pissant little shit in the middle of nowhere that nobody cares about anyway. What's wrong with just being ourselves out here where nobody bothers us? I'm happy to go about my life without patriotic wankery.

I should add that our PM once tried to make a grand statement at a meeting of world leaders. They rightfully ignored the dork.
