Hey guys, I'm starting a new book from scratch right now. And just finished my first chapter. I'm actually going to try and publish this one after I finish the whole thing. I thought maybe I should get someone to look it over. I hope you enjoy my concept and first chapter.

Chapter 1
Fateful Encounter
If only his old man could see him now. He'd be proud. He'd be proud his son was going on this strong, that he wasn't giving up. No, not for a minute would he doubt my strength and if I failed he would simply pick me up and tell me to go at it again. He would never give up. Ever. My dad was my strength in times like these and I would never falter with him nearby and he would never falter by my side it's something that no one but him could understand. This was for certain.
Black whipped his brow and whipped his shoulder length brown hair behind his back. He was pumping with adrenaline. His opponent a Hispanic man aged 21 using a sawed of shotgun. Although, the CPH forbid fighting with such weapons it was an illegal match and thus a chance to use illegal weapons. Which is why he was using an outdated assault rifle. His opponent name didn't matter only the fight and beating your opponent this was all that mattered on the battlefield against monsters – this is all that mattered in life.
The man fired his shotgun once at Blacks shoulder and a second at his leg. His AT field worked like magic and he only felt the sharp recoil that sent him at least a foot backwards into a rut. The man began his reload. This was his chance, Black ran towards the man pulling out his progression knife and shoving it at his chest. It ate away at piece of the opposing warrior's AT field and pushed the Hispanic man backwards scraping the back of his shirt and resulted in Black unloading clip into the other man. Causing his almost all of his AT field to be depleted.
The Horrifying attack had left the man dazed his A.T field was completely depleted which left the man open for real cuts and bruises. Black quickly reloaded the man unleashed more shots almost making another crack in Blacks field. After the reload, Black did something unexpected he pulled out a ball out of his pocket and threw it at his flustered opposer quickly running backwards to avoid the explosion. His current rival realized suddenly that what he threw would blow him to bits and he would end up a week in civil detention and almost a month in nano regeneration if he didn't get the hell out of there.
Black smirked, he had looked behind him the man would surely get suspended from whatever branch he came from and the embarrassment he couldn't wait to stick it to this bastard. Defeated by a 12 year old cadet! It was getting sweeter every minute. The bomb went of faster than expected and Black was thrown at least 10 meters while running lifting him up in the air for a little while he smiled. He landed roughly taking a roll to cushion his fall he looked back at the mess that he had caused. Sirens had already been heard. He had to get out of here he didn't care to much for the condition of his opponent. This was all illegal anyway, he would've done the same if he had lost to him. Black turned around and looked down the alleyway two buildings were closely huddled together. Black ran down the alleyway and made a running jump for the top of the fence scaling it in one leap like a hunter of his class would be capable of. He left for campus and smiled that he had truly one his first street fight.
Black now had to move quickly and not be seen by any of the micro camera's that were set and placed around Waterloo. He hated security cameras, he found them a terrible violation of one's human rights but that's the Canadian government these days. If you had asked him the things have went downhill from the 1970's but that was a little extreme. Even for him, but he was Black Symphonic he had a standard he had to maintain even if they were a little extreme it was the truth and that was that.
Black jumped down, he didn't notice that he was a little anxious after this fight. This was his first time. It was understandable especially since this was punishable by law. But, it's usually a night or two in jail so he didn't care. Black was going to start his own business anyway, he didn't really care about criminal records or such nonscence that he never could take seriously.
Black smiled, he saw that the cops had passed the building he was on top of and jumped down his chain making chiming from the 3 foot jump. He was still getting used to this new enhancer serum. It was making him quite dizzy, but he didn't need a “viewing” as they worded it nowadays. All that really did was make you see past there mounds of crap that the government run by kids not much older than him and make him see things from that “perspective”. He wasn't a fool, things shouldn't be like this.
Call him a conspirator, he didn't care. Constant surveillance, checkpoints in civilian areas and censorship of worldwide networks. Black often wondered and pondered about world affairs he kept BDR's on his computer and even actual books under his bed. He's read all of them skimming, reading and just generally referencing making small ticks, just ticks. Everything that looked so out of place that it began to boggle his mind, he just made ticks. There were only like 20 but if those 20 things didn't happen he believed that the world would be very different than what it was today. A world that was logical and believable by him.
He had one book under his bed made in 2019 which had an entirely different account of Day of Terror than the toned down version of events that portrayed it as a huge disaster with raised death counts by a few hundred to a wide area disaster that could of leveled Manhattan with huge exaggerated death counts portrayed in his NAVI. He touched his NAVI again to make sure that he had still had it with him inside his pocket. He lightly smacked his back pocket in which it stopped his hand making a harder impact differentiating from that of nothing he was satisfied and made his way forward. Heading for the CPH headquarters.
“Shaun, what's up?” smiled Mr. Lum slightly leaning on Shaun. Mr. Lum liked to mock students that weren't in line and boy, Shaun sure must have been Mr. Lum's favourite. Mr. Lum smiled devilishly as Shaun flinched slightly startled in his desk. He was looking up mods for his new jet board. He realized that he should have been paying attention even still, that wasn't what Shaun was worried about he was worried about Black and the fact that he had helped him hack his terminal to be able to have access to the internet. But he knew Mr. Lum too well, very well, infact he knew right away he didn't give a crap about his style, his limited edition hover which had a neat 50's style going for it, or the fact that this mod currently showed $299.99 US on the screen before him. No, all Mr. Lum cared about was quadratics. That's all. If Shaun did all of his quadratic homework Mr. Lum wouldn't even care if he ditched class. But, Shaun sucked at math.
“Now listen, I'm sure you're not going to pass the term with just your hunter grades alone” said Mr. Lum loudly just so the whole class could hear him. Some girls behind him giggled. “ I don't care if your going to hunt Phantom's for the rest of your life but you need some Math background before they'll even consider you for a position beyond seargent. If you even get that far Shaun”. Mr Lum raised his eyebrow. He was a rare sight because he was actually full Chinese. It's rare that you even saw pure bloods this young. He wasn't an Asian mix either. He didn't only stand out because he was loud but because he was sarcastic and made it known that he was pure Chinese and nothing else.
Shaun himself was half native American – quarter English and quarter French. And his best friend Black was half Cambodian - half Canadian but he would never tell any other human beings that. He was so Anti-Social he saw background checks as nothing more than away to abuse and find out more of your opponent. He was real jerk, but usually not to him. I guess that's why they were both best friends. Shaun, shut off his quick-switched his browser back to the Math-App and went back to question 4.
Mr. Lum was smiled “Wow, Shaun still on question 4...after I've given you what? ....68 minutes, let me tell you something Mr. Ada . The summative is coming in 4 days, do you think your ready for that? Can I ask you another question? You have to make a career choice in year afterwards there it is, 3 years! Mr. Ada! 3! Are you planning on being a mathematician even though you don't like math AT ALL! ” The class started laughing again. Shaun thought Mr. Lum needed to relax personally, the guy had 3 years until the PBR went straight to his head and he was still nagging out of his mind. Can't he just take it easy. I mean Shaun thought that if you only had a few years to live they should be the best years of his life but all he wanted to do was work.
But, then Shaun understood finally why Lum was acting this way. It's because he enjoyed this, he enjoyed picking on students and that's why Lum was here. He was having fun for his last 3 years with his brain functioning. “Okay, sir. I'll shape up, I promise...”. Mr. Lum frowned “And by the way Mr. Ada where is Mr. Hazard? “I think he's skipping sir!” outbursted a tall young man at the back smiling as he did so. “Mr. Jeon, quite down and get back to your terminal!” snapped Mr. Lum. Jeon sat down and leered at Shaun. Shaun turned quickly while Lum was distracted and gave Andy the finger.
Shaun, turned back to his terminal he noticed he forgot to write down the date. Scrolled to the top of the BDR and typed in the top left field. 09/24/2074. He forgot, something he usually didn't do. Despite his math ability, Shaun had a photographic memory and could probably remember things that were as random as sign he passed by on street on the bus this morning. It wasn't his fault though, he was worried about Black. What if he could get seriously hurt, he'd be in nano treatment for days if the guy he got in a fight with was using explosives. He should of skipped with Black, just to make sure he was okay... Shaun reminisced, this was yesterday, Black picked up 20 dollar bill of the ground and looked straight at him. He gave his best most biggest cheesy smile. “Are you thinking what I'm thinking?” he smirked. “Yeah” Shaun replied.
The two took of running as fast as they could, looking at each other on the way. Black decided to push it further and so did Shaun both of them running as fast as they could toward they're telekinetic agreeable location. Black got to the end of the hall, the school doors slid open and as soon as Shaun reached outside just an inch behind Black he could feel the incredibly hot sun beating down on them. It felt almost therapeutic, that didn't stop him from running his fastest and mightiest towards their destination.
All they way to the mall, he knew the drill. Black and him had always made a fit together when finding money on the floor. They didn't want to split it 50/50 and they didn't want to make it so that this was a who saw it first thing. So, whenever this happened with the other person in presence – they raced. Depending on nearby objects that the two had sat down and agreed upon. Today it was 2km high pine tree. A symbol of how far man has succeeded in altering god's creation. But, besides that the two were running as fast as they could.
“Hey!” Black stopped immediately whipping around stopping the race immediately to face his aggressor. “You heard me, Jackass! Hey! Who do you think you are, taking what don't belong to you?” it was a Hispanic man or at least he couldn't tell if he was pure or not. He didn't care anyway he thought pure bloods were pretty lame. And they never handled any of the serum treatment well. He thought this guy's style was pretty bad too. Baggy pants, short puffy top from the 60's and pink basketball shoes.
“Whatever...I don't know what you're talking about...” Black turned around and began running again, Shaun froze like a deer in headlights what was Black thinking? They didn't have any weapons on them . Black just had his survival knife and that was it. Shaun, suddenly woke up and realized that the man in baggy pants had started running after Black. Shaun was worried now, this guy obviously didn't care about his life enough to risk a street fight. He was worried Black would get sucked into the fray and then get arrested or even in nano-treatment.
Shaun readied himself, he didn't even have his knife but maybe if they both tried they could take him down hand-to hand. Shaun ran in their same direction tailing them quickly, he didn't know how this was possible. He was hoping the man didn't have a gun. Black stopped and Shaun's heart froze, he gave the puff shirted man a dark glare, he had probably noticed the gun as well. Black stood his ground regardless the man slowing down grabbed Black's shirt and lifted him off the ground.
“You've got a lot of spunk kid! Disrespecting your elders like that!” the man grinned and gave Black an intimidating smile. Shaun had finally arrived pulled out his knife and jumped the man from behind startling but not fully knocking the adult down, Shaun placed his legs around the man's hips. Shaun had the knife carefully placed at the arterie on the left side of his neck. “Whoa, very good! I see, you're really good! Did they up the training back in the CPHO?” he was grinning ear to ear. “Listen, let my buddy go or I'll slit your-- “ “MY THROAT!!!” the man started to laugh. “Oh gosh, you two really are amateurs”. Black frowned “ Shaun, you idiot! How did you let him get to you so easily! Shaun looked down. The pistol had vanished and had been replaced with a giant magnum aimed directly at his crotch.
“Don't -” “Shoot? If I wanted to shoot you, I would've of done it when your stupid friend ran away. Why did you think I didn't take out my gun before, I know you spotted it...” he was still smiling it was starting to become horrific it was like the man was insane. Black kept his cool, Shaun looked Panicked. “Okay” Black said surprisingly calmly quickly breaking the sudden tense air. “What do you want with me? I'll call the cops and you'll get arrested as they're camera's watching us. You're just stalling aren't you?” he frowned. He loosened his grip and Black kicked off turning quickly into a fighting stance, with his own knife now in hand. “I want that $20 you found, but now I'm not so sure I want that.” said the the Hispanic man with such monotone that even Black was starting to think this guy was out of his mind. “Besides, you found it fair and square. What, I want instead is a match with you to the death.” the man smiled again. Black had heard about such things. It started in the 30's with breakthroughs in Biotechnology. Nanobots, had to ability to construct and repair proteins and smaller parts of the body. Making fatalities such as head shots and gunshots much less fatal. Recruits and civilians such as themselves had to go to a hospital for such treatment. But the black market sold syringes filled with nanos' that you could just pick up inject and recover whatever limbs or organs that you had lost. Black although he had never really lived in the past felt that this was sort of funny. The only way to truly kill someone these days was to totally vaporize there head. With terrible side effects but it was still funny.
This is where the street fights come in. People, have taken sport into seeing who could bring the other near death the fastest. The battles go even farther than decapitation. Shocking stories as people are brutally gouged and maimed in battle the worst ways possible. All because they won't die from it. People, have dubbed these the Dark Tournaments. Black found it idiotic that even with Monsters that constantly attack and invade; humans had not banded together and are still killing each other. At least it wasn't based on race or culture anymore because everyone was pretty much the same thing. No, it was just about money these days but wasn't it always?
Shaun looked straight at Black mouthing to him to refuse. Black looked the man straight in the eye and nodded his head.
