Hey guys, I'm starting up a piece of fiction here, but before I get deep into it I need to make sure I'm not ripping off someone I've never heard of. So has there ever been a novel based around the essential concept that the American Revolution failed, and that England controls the USA even today?
Wrong. People will buy anything no matter how stupid or shitty it is. It's just a matter of how many of them do.
In order to bank in on the recent conspiracy theory mania following the publication and deplorable success of the Da Vinci Code, include some Templars and shit in your alternate history and you're all set.

Just about every possible idea has been done before in some form. If you want to write a book about that then just do it.
A third of the world used to be. That's not particularly remarkable.

Has there ever been made a book about what the world would look like, if all of the world's economic powers were swapped around? Africa is now the richest continent, etc., etc. ...?

I'm pretty sure the world would be dominated by the Asian powers.
Probably China, that is unless of course the Japanese industrialised during the 20's like they did in real life.

I doubt it. Africans may have reached the Americas before Asians did. Also, Africans were really advanced around the time of the black plague. If the black plague had not happened, Africans probably would have been the first to colonize the Americas.
You see, before the black plague happened, Europeans all feared what was outside their little township, and were suspicious of everything (excluding maaaaybe the Vikings). Ever wonder why all fairy tales are like "don't go on your neighbor's property" (Rapunzel), "don't remarry" (Cinderella), "don't go in the forest" (Hansel and Gretel), "don't go to other towns" (Musicians of Bremen Town), etc? It's because Europeans were afraid of everything. The black plague came and made them stop being afraid. Without the plague, they would have stayed afraid of the outside world long enough for the Africans (who were a seafaring continent already) to discover the Americas.
The only country in Asia powerful enough to make it to the Americas was China (they did make it to the Americans in 1427), and there were a lot more Africans than Chinese (continent vs. country).

If the section of land known as the continent of Europe never existed, then chances are all the land-masses would look much different as well, and possibly be situated much differently in relation to what they look like in real life. That would also have to be factored in to an extent.

Then perhaps the black plague never happening is a better angle if >>35 is correct.
you guys dont really get it, the black plague and whatnot are much before what he is talking about.
he is talking about the colonization of the americas. if the americans had not succeeded in the revoultion and we were still an english controlled country is what he is referring to.
as far as i can remember there isnt a book about that yet. and even if there was as long as your idea was original it wouldn't be a rip off. because even if there was a book with the same basic concept behind it, the probability of you and the other of the other book having things played out the exact same and having the ending being the exact same are worse than your chances of winning the lottery, going outside getting hit by lightning twice in the same spot, living, and then having your house destroyed by a falling airplane.
