plenty of manga gets scanlated, but are there any projects to do fan translations of japanese novels?
i've heard of the Haruhi novel translations, and that's about it.
are we missing out on some cool stuff?

I read somewhere that it was quickly translated into chinese by boot-leggers to sell at markets. I havn't heard of any groups that fan-translate books from japanese or any other language. is there some book that >>1 is hoping to read in english?

There was a thread on a manga scanlation forum about this, and the main translator there said she wouldn't translate a novel because she found it around a hundred times more draining and difficult than translating mangas. The Haruhi novels had sparked the conversation in the first place, and though she didn't think it was a bad effort, she said that a lot of leeway was used to try and convey the meanings accross which made the accuracy of the translation questionable, and this was one of the reasons it was so difficult - translating from Japanese into English just isn't the exact science that many people think it is.

I, for one, would not mind seeing translations of the Tenchi novels.

Someone needs to get their ass in gear and translate the Megami Tensei novels. Now.
