Split infinitices

I'm sure there is some famous and at least half-funny quote about split infinitives. I wish to politely ask if you know the quote I mean.

Well done, you can use google, I didn't find it there and then I asked here.

so technically, is it right or wrong to actively use these?

What the hell does that have to do with split infinitives?

I believe that although technically incorrect, split infinitives are now used so frequently that they are no longer regarded as being 'bad grammar'.

As the OED states: "… in standard English the principle of allowing split infinitives is broadly accepted as both normal and useful" (August, 1998)

he probably figured (as i did) that the OP was mixing up churchill's preposition quote for something about split infinitives

if you're an english major, it's wrong. if you're a linguistics major, it's right. basically, linguistics has a thing called prescriptive vs descriptive language. prescriptive language is where people make rules for a language and apply them to people's use of it, while descriptive is where you just see how people naturally use the language and write the rules based on that.

so a prescriptivist would say, "it's wrong". a descriptivist would say, "it's fine to use, since lots of people do, and it's not like it'll impair your communication ability (people know what you're saying, even if they think you're saying it wrong), but some elitist fucks will bitch at you for doing it"

Don't change these.
