I'm sure most of us here enjoy a good book. We just already read everything there is to read, and discussing books is not as fun as they are not usually filled with plotholes like animanga.

What >>3 said, really.  Waps can't really process anything meatier than plot progression, mythology arc and Kooky Characterz Lol. You're talking about a fanbase that nominates Ghost in the Shell and NGE as its 'cerebral' output.

Name: Anonymous 2006-02-23 7:54

I have no idea how to discuss books. What is there to discuss to begin with?

Stuff I've read recently:
The Idiot
Nausea
The Stranger
The Bible

Is there anything in particular you would like to discuss?

Well, the same book can say different things to different people.  Comparing what a book means to you with what it means to someone else is a good way to learn how that person thinks.

I feel like books are too long. Also they often don't give you a good reason to continue reading them after you started. "Ok, this is a science fiction universe. The characters are ... smart, huh? Will that be it or is there something else coming up?"

I imagine it to be hard to come up with something interesting in every sentence or paragraph in a 300 page book. Instead people should just write short stories, like the copy-paste stories on 4chan. There is so much you can put into a single paragraph if you try hard enough. Limitations like that enhance creativity. I don't mind reading something several times if it also keeps my attention in the first go-through.

I wish there'd be a forum for freestyle shortstory writing so I could learn. Fanfiction seems to kindof miss the point, since it's the world/characters I'm interested in - the plot is merely a tool to try and introduce me to them.
