Some books use excessive wordiness, go on forever, or use archaic terminology. They may have a plodding pace, with hardly any action between pages, but somehow trudging through them to their last page is an enjoyable test of endurance. What have you enjoyed slogging through?

I have recently enjoyed reading My Antonia by Willa Cather in the fiction department. The books resemblance to certain harem anime is what got me into it beyond it being a school assignment. Ultimatly the book was beautiful and is a sheer joy to read multiple times.
Guns Germs and Steel by Jaron Diamond is a fantastic book in the non-fiction department. Anyone who enjoys history, this book is a must. Diamond puts into perscpective the very important aspects of prehistory, like agriculture, and shows how they affect the evolution of nations in various parts of the globe over the centuries.
