Are there any Young Adult books you like?  Do you think any are superior to "adult" targetted books?

No, young adult books are generaly watered down pieces of elephant shit. The plots are usually predictable and poorly thought out. I read young adult books in elementary, but my mind was simple enough then to be satisfied with them, and as soon as I was in middleschool I was reading and understanding Aldous Huxley, George Orwell, Orson Scott Card, and Larry Niven(I still cant believe our library had him, there was always a generous amount of fucking in his books) Although when I was in 8th grade I really enjoyed the Redwall series, but I've picked up the first book recently and tried to read it. I forced myself to go on, but ended up putting it down after an hour when I was 3/4ths through with it because it just wasnt worth anymore of my concentration to finish.

I read almost all(all of the ones in the library) of the Applegate's Animorphs series in elementary/middle school. They were pretty entertaining. My brothers and I were completely obsessed over it for a few years.

I would say Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game is a good young adult book and Ender's Shadow.  The rest of the series is garbage.  The entire CS Lewis series if you're talking about young, young adult.  Any older, and the Christian symbolism kicks in and ruins the story.

Fifth Business and To Kill A Mocking Bird are young adult staples aren't they?

What would happen if I attempted to read past Ender's Shadow?

I read CS Lewis's Narnia when I was young and did not notice any Christian symbolism. Maybe I should reread it.

while i wouldn't say that an above average young adult book is better or even as "good" as an above average adult book, they can often be fun, and they are also extremely light reads; besides the simplicity, they are also short, so they have their use.

Young Adult books do tend to stick to their plot more than a meandering adult novel that can go absolutely nowhere.  Even the Star Wars YA novels, as melodramatic and crappy as they may be, have more focus on plot and action than the adult novels.

Yeah, me too, then I read them again - Holy Sh1t - chock full to the extent i was almost put off reading them again.

Young adults books worth reading - check out Susan Cooopers Dark is Rising sequence and pretty much anything by Alan Garner.

I think The Dark is Rising is far too incoherent and Welsh, but it might work for other people.

Don't change these.
