Media Player

Does it really matter what media player I use?
Don't they all look the same?

Not all media players are created equal.  For example, WMP sucks compared to just about every other media player, and uses a ridiculous amount of memory.
Personally, I use VLC for video and foobar2000 for audio.

>VLC
Jesus Christ, do you have severe vision impairment?
VLC is eyecancer, it's decoders are absolutely horrible and create even more compression artifacts than the media already has.

Grab CCCP, it already comes with Media Player Classic - Home Cinema. It's the best and requires no effort to get running.

I've been using VLC only up until the point where it started to fuck up my anime. That was 2 seasons ago I think

Isn't CCCP a bit outdated? KCP requires even less effort to get running.

Name: Anonymous 2013-11-20 14:40

the differences between vlc and cccp are trivial

if you are using either of them you are infinitely better off than everyone else

Building font cache... is enough to make me NOT want to use VLC.

VLC? CCCP/KCP?
Both are nothing compared to the pure might of mplayer.
Need a GUI?(What are you a wimp?) Smplayer is your best bet.

CCCP gets updates every few months, and the devs do some custom bugfixes/patches for xy-vsfilter that won't show up in KCP. The KCP devs just kinda throw the updates from the separate components together. The only extra step you need to worry about between CCCP and KCP is installing madVR, and that takes a whole minute to do.

Not entirely true. VLC has issues with washed out colors on Nvidia cards, first of all. On top of that, swscale is broken on VLC (at least on Windows), so you're stuck using bilinear interpolation for scaling video. The end result is typically pretty blurry compared to what madVR on MPC-HC can give you. Honestly, installing CCCP + madVR isn't too much harder than installing VLC. There's really no reason not to do it.

Hahaha, mplayer hasn't been updated in years. Go get mpv instead.
