I've just finished watching Clannad (not after story). And I have some mixed feelings, I REALLY disliked the overly fake kindness going around and the joviality not to mention the awkward as fuck way they introduced themselves. However there were many scenes and episodes with little of this, so overall I liked it. I decided to watch it after watching Sword Art Online because I honestly haven't been moved as much by something ever before.(only the first 13 episodes, the rest was shit imo)
So what I'm wondering is if there's any similar animes to SAO and Clannad with characters that looks around 16-20 years old (around my age). I feel really uncomfortable when they look like <14 year olds.
Also this is my first post, I don't know how you guys treat new people (to anime) seeking suggestions. If you hate them more then anything in the world I guess this will just fade away sooner or later

This is pretty good. I'll use it next time I get drunk and start making rec threads on /a/.
Hey, do you kids sometimes kiss your pillow and pretend it’s one of the Little Rascals?

Let's see.
If you can deal with the horrid looks of Kanon (2006), it is a really good one.
I dropped it like 2 times, but then I stopped being a bitch and dealt with the fucked up eyes. It was worth it.
Then we have;
True Tears
Myself; Yourself
Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo
Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai
Oreimo (it gets good in the second season)
Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko
Kokoro Connect

Not all of them are strict romance animes, but all have at least elements of romance.

Just read some Shoujo romance manga. Maybe Shoujo Ai or Shounen Ai if you want. I can never understand why people can't just browse around and pick up anything that interests you just a little. You find more and more series that way. On your own. Does a series just have to have multiple seals of approval before you decide to pick it up?

I felt like the 2nd season was worse in every way possible. I finally dropped it once they found Kuroneko. Different studio, started to feel like more and more of a half-baked harem series, rushed to an unsatisfying watered-down ending, etc. From my experience, the only people that liked the 2nd season more, only did because they found it unreasonably hard to deal with Kirino's character.
Well, if you like Clannad, Shuffle! is probably right down your alley.

Most of the recommendations in this thread are awful. Kimi ni Todoke isn't bad, though.
Best straight romance anime I can think of off the top of my head are probably Nana and Utakoi. There's a pretty cute OVA called Nineteen that is worth a watch if you can find it. Not great, but short OVA about a 19 year old getting his first girlfriend. Kemonozume, Kuragehime, Beck, and Honey & Clover are all pretty good shows that I guess aren't strictly romance, but the romance is there and a part of the show.
You're probably generally better off with manga, though. There's a lot of cute shoujo and josei romance that isn't animated.
