Yeah. I don't really like this mentality. Putting experimental animation on pedestal for the sole reason of being unconventional. I mean, I enjoy the style of Yuasa as much as the next guy, but I wouldn't think it's more "real animation" than something more standard nor would I want every production to have the style of Mind Game. It's good to have diversity, but standards are usually standards for good reasons. That comment just comes off as unnecessarily arrogant and somewhat pretentious.

No joke, this is the future of mass production anime made for fanservice and money purposes.

But Imaishi and all these people are still around, but they will no longer be part of mainstream.

Attack on Titan ep. 8: Arifumi Imai did key animation for the scene of Mikasa and Annie killing the last two titans in the supply room.

Yasuyuki Ebara did 1st Key Animation for the slow motion punch on the two titans. Katsuhiko Kitada did 2nd KA on it.

Imai strong

Always impressed he can do solo KA so much, in this day and age where schedules are fucked up and budgets are so badly allocated.

Anyone know why he's able to do it? Does Pokemon have good schedules? Do they actually share some of the merchandising money back to the animators so the aniamtion can be better?

Name: Anonymous 2013-05-31 8:40

Haven't tight schedules in anime been a normal thing since forever? Still, it's pretty interesting for solo episodes to be more common in older anime though the quality of the animation tends to vary from what I've heard. The rare solo episode today tends to be of pretty high quality work thought only the crazy and talented animators can pull that off.

Nobuyoshi SASAKADO (佐々門 信芳) has made his career doing solo episodes. He has like 100 under his name.
http://www18.atwiki.jp/sakuga/pages/32.html

He worked like this all the way from the 80s, through the 90s until the early 00s.

Name: Anonymous 2013-05-31 18:51

Norio Matsumoto did one, right? In You are under Arrest I believe

Name: Anonymous 2013-05-31 20:30

I think he didn't manage to finish his solo but a good chunk of an episode should contain his work.

Why does Railgun have so many ADs per episode? It doesn't seem like it's made on a tight schedule.
