Typically the only anime films to really achieve great Japanese box office success are mainstream accessible pictures like Ghibli films and children’s anime, and features specifically targeted at established fan bases.

Ghost in the Shell and Akira are very rare exceptions, projects like that usually can't suck anyones dick and that's why they never get made.
