All the stuff should be in archives

Yes, Araltrans works with newer and older rUGP machines

Needs: Translators

Jutsuki Sen: 5% done
Diel: 1/6 done with TDA 00, Chicken Driver revising

!!VYwl7ycLm3c - coder: Tweaking araltrans-successful
Jutsuki Sen !!3NyYVBjX5sl - AF translator
Sachibelle !09b.f1ShXg - AF translator (?)
Diel (Chronicles Translator) !ok/MkdpFbs- TDA translator

To clarify this, it means tweaked Araltrans machine replacing translated text with the one in game, not Korean->English translation.
Its using Korean machine to replace the translated Japanese text

Name: Anonymous 2012-08-05 19:59

I love you guys long time.

Name: Jutsuki Sen 2012-08-05 20:04

Whoa, we're banished to the text boards now, huh?

Name: Anonymous 2012-08-05 20:08

I guess Jutsuki
I think it will be more stable and hopefully sachibelle can catch the thread

and people were bitching about it

speaking that, you do know that he wants to join the translation right? Just confirming

Name: Anonymous 2012-08-05 20:10

Oh shit how can I forget that
I need to ask !!VYwl7ycLm3c if people need to replace the linebreak.dat in AT file for english text replacing. Without that, korean translation text fucks up and loads paragraphs into the textbox, skipping everything, and fucks up the scrolling

Name: Jutsuki Sen 2012-08-05 20:18

I'd like to keep the AF translation to a one-man affair for now, maybe I'll accept other members once I release the airsoft arc (which is about 40% done, btw)

Name: Anonymous 2012-08-05 20:24

Ah ok then Jutsuki.
Hopefully Sachibelle will drop by soon. He was interested in Altered fable or chronicles if I remember... hopefully.

Keep up the awesome work!

Name: Anonymous 2012-08-05 20:34

I never thought I'll live the day it will be translated. Thank you so much.

I wouldn't call it banishment, more like voluntary emigration.

If I can make a suggestion, why don't you allow Sachibelle to translate content after the airsoft arc?
Maybe that way, you can make parallel progress, and shorten the workload you need to do.

Are you also aware the are free network options available to share scripts and files?

Name: Anonymous 2012-08-06 11:04

I agree with >>12, but with a couple of provisions and suggestions.

First and foremost, having multiple translators working on the same thing without setting standards is a bad, bad idea. I know this firsthand. If parallel translation work is to even be consdered, then having a set of preset translations for names, ambiguous phrasings, idioms and the like is going to be absolutely essential before parallel translation can even be considered. That said, once the standardization is firmly set, having two people (or more) working on this would be great.

I believe that setting up some sort of file sharing service would be very beneficial, and while there are several options to that end I feel that either a shared mediafire account or an FTP server would be the way to go.

>Mediafire
Pros:
Really, really easy to use
Free
Fast
Reliable

Cons:
No provisions for shared accounts
200 MB file size
Has a tendency to delete first and ask questions later when in doubt of legality at all

>FTP server
Pros:
No artificial size or content limits
Designed with multiple uploaders in mind

Cons:
Harder to use than mediafire
Someone is responsible for uptime and pays for the bandwidth and physical storage

I think that if we have a Muv-Luv lover out there who can host and maintain an FTP server then that's what we should go with, but if none of us are so technically inclined then one of the trips should make a MF account with a dummy email and share the info with other important contributors so they can all upload. We also might want to look at getting an IRC so any issues can  be handled without playing enail tag.

Name: Anonymous 2012-08-08 3:03

Or, you could just set up a free private SVN network like the Majikoi team is doing.

The cooperation is absolutely necessary, needless to say. Not that it might be possible now anyway, since I haven't seen Sachibelle since we decided to switch platforms.
He probably doesn't use his trip unless it calls for it, and based on his posting style, I don't think he knows either about the archive, or how to use it. So unless someone can find him again, you're solo again Sen.

How often can we see the project updated anyway? It's a bit arduous to see the thread dead in the water, since it's neither a blog, nor a forum, and it can fade into obscurity if we let it be.
Which would be a darn shame.

Name: Anonymous 2012-08-08 21:34

it has already faded into obscurity right now.

SVN is a pretty great idea--versioning can save you from unlimited headache.

Name: Sachibelle 2012-08-09 23:12

I'm here, sorry about the long wait. I'm still really looking forward to working on this, but my biggest concern has just been how we're working on it together. If there's a more secure way to contact each other, it would make it easier. It also would make it so we can easily contact each other about different idioms etc.

By the way, I'm a girl. I hate to bring that up, but it just seems weird seeing he next to my name?

Name: Fluff 2012-08-09 23:17

So, to who or where should I go if I want to inquire about translating Altered Fable? I have no idea how these things usually work since I've never translated for a team before, but I'd like to pitch in anyway.

Name: Anonymous 2012-08-10 2:12

>>17
>btw im a girl

Noone really will care anyway sice it isnt daytime /a/. Any contributors are welcome, but it would attract some shitposters.

>>18
Jutsuki sen said that he wants to work alone at least til end of paintball arc for AF. How experienced are you? How is your japanese and english?
Tbh any contributors are welcome

Name: Fluff 2012-08-10 3:19

>>19

That's fine, too. Just curious if help would be welcome at some point, if not right now.

English is my first language, and I like to think I'm better than... some native speakers. My Japanese is decent enough that I could tune into a news program or most other standard-issue television shows and understand them. I've already played AF, and I can understand it well enough to know the story and the details of the individual routes.

If that doesn't suffice, though, I'd still love to lend a hand some other way if possible! I adore Muv-Luv, and I'm glad there's finally progress on cracking the engine and translating the fan disks.

You should probably wait for response with other translators. Chronicles open though

>>20
Are you japanese or did you teach yourself?

Name: Fluff 2012-08-10 15:07

>>21

I'm in no rush, just putting it on the table if needed. I could do Chronicles too, though, if that one needs the help.

>>22

Half-self taught, half-classes over... maybe seven or eight years. Please don't take self-taught to mean "watched a lot of anime episodes subbed and pretended to know a few words on the internet afterward", though. That's... not even close to proper immersion.

Name: Anonymous 2012-08-11 2:52

Please don't take self-taught to mean "watched a lot of anime episodes subbed and pretended to know a few words on the internet afterward", though.
But anon, that's what it always means.

Name: Anonymous 2012-08-12 17:54

so is this dead?

Name: Anonymous 2012-08-13 16:06

>>25
I hope not.
I mean, we're really relying solely on Jutsuki to deliver here.

It would be nice if he said a thing or two once in a while though.

Name: Sachibelle 2012-08-14 1:53

That's been kind of what we're all waiting on, yeah. Like I said, I'm just ready and waiting for some progress updates so that I can get started too. I've got nothing but time at this point, but the actual extraction of the text and all is what I'm confused on. I'm just a translator, I don't know jack about anything technical unfortunately.

Sen drops into the TE discussion threads once in a while. Maybe someone can redirect him here.

Might even help to make another thread in /a/ to move the rest of the group here.

Name: Jutsuki Sen 2012-08-15 22:01

Oh yeah, sorry about not posting in awhile; I keep forgetting to check the text boards.

I put up a blog thingy, but it's ugly as sin right now, and I haven't made any meaningful posts.

>I keep forgetting to check the text boards.
You're killing me man.

This is where you go to to ask for advice or help on translation stuff. Instead of recycling archaic threads on a really fast board, this is a better overall option as a platform for the project and any discussion.

I don't think you need it now though, since you look like you've been doing a splendid job anyway. Good to see you started up a blog as well, even if you don't know your way around the features. Now's a good time to explore though... since you don't have any viewers (I swear I'm the first or second person to visit that page, since you just made it, like, 20 minutes ago).

Also, let's all try to keep it in-house, alright? If it gets too popular, you'll get ungrateful idiots pressuring you to do it faster or shitposting all over your blog. You might also run the risk of getting the blog closed down and losing all the content on it, due to copyright infringement or inappropriate content. If we keep this low-key, however, I doubt it will happen.

As I said earlier, this is a place for discussion. Don't be afraid to ask questions here, as we'll try to do our best to help you out.
And that applies to everyone, although don't expect to find an answer every time.

Name: Anonymous 2012-08-15 22:31

>>30
Whoops, I forgot to look at the creation date on that blog.
I guess I meant this is the first time you have posted it publicly.

Name: Jutsuki Sen 2012-08-15 22:56

>>30
Yep, my plan is to keep it fairly low-key, because I know some folks have gotten burned by copyright (or maybe they wanted to drop the project and used that as an excuse).

Name: Anonymous 2012-08-16 0:14

>>32
It's not so much as getting on your ass about it, as just sending you an email notifying you your blog has been closed and deleted due to copyright infringement.
Even if it became widely-known, it shouldn't happen soon anyway, since I doubt age has people everywhere.

Don't worry though. The text board is really slow, and if anything happens that you're concerned over, we're here to help. At least in any way we can... which is usually just words of encouragement and advise...

When you say "Altered Fable" translation, is that only Before the Shimmering Time Fades or does that include also Faraway Dawn and Total Eclipse (of which quite a bit has already been translated here http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?v18v2qai7os7xif)?
