How people in USA think about Japanese anime

I am a Hong Kong people
I woukd want to know how people in USA think about Japanese anime

For USA , as she has their own well evolved animation industry, will people there have a more positive view on Japanese anime.
I mean, if your own country produces lots of comics/cartoons, u will not smear others products,right??

It's looked down on by most people, actually.
You get grouped in with "losers" or "nerds" and are generally made fun of for watching it.

Many teens who watch anime hide it from everyone else but their friends.
