In theory, it could be a low-traffic /a/ alternative for long-term threads. In practice there are fully-fledged imageboards suitable for that purpose e.g. oneechan /a/ and few people even remember it exists, so yeah it's kind of useless.

I guess it's here because moot wanted to mirror the 2ch / 2chan pairing, but only the latter took off.
