why are anime characters often superficial?

yui manages to get top grades despite being a blockhead
and stupid male shonen leads often come up brilliant strategies
and characters who can't cook;I mean you can mistake salt for sugar once but every friggin time?

these characters there to entertain , not tot represent reality.
