Recommendations for R2 DVDs?

I posted this in the imageboard as well, but figured I might get more constructive responses here.

I'm vice president of a university anime society in Britland that meets every week to watch ~3-4 hours of anime. I'm probably the only person in the society who even knows what a fansub is, let alone keeps up with releases; the rest of the society join after only having seen whatever is on DVD at the local HMV or shit uploaded to youtube. Problem is, the university will fuck us over if they catch us showing fansubs (which they will, because there's bound to be some uptight little asshole in the backrow that thinks he's saving the world from terrorism by reporting us) so we have to buy legal Region 2 DVDs. Because the R2 DVD market is so shit compared to R1 & fansubs, I've hardly bought any & haven't kept up with what series have been licensed & released. I've taken a quick look at places like Amazon.co.uk & Play.com & the selection looks utter shit & hideously overpriced.

So can anybody give me any recommendations on R2 DVDs to buy & where to buy them from? The audience is 30-50 people each week, about equal ratio male/female. Tonight we're coming to the end of Azumanga Daioh (which went down really well) & Noein (which went down not so well, but it was chosen more as an "oh shit what are we going to show tonight? oh look, that's cheap, let's show that!") & ideally we need two more 24-episode series to replace them, one light-hearted comedy/slice-of-life & the other something a bit more serious.

I would love to show some of the good stuff that I've watched myself in recent years, like Haruhi, Lucky Star, Gankutsuou, Ouran, etc. but none of that is out on R2.

tl;dr is there any good anime on R2 DVD?

What is "fansub"?

Haruhi's out on DVD now.

Amazon's probably going to be the best you'll get - look for the special offers.

Is there any reason you couldn't show R1 DVDs? (The prices'll be even worse, mind, but at least the selection's good).

Technically, it's not: Japan is in Region 2.

I get what you mean though: there's not a lot for English-language releases in R2 these days.

Pretty much, what >>3 said.  Get a-hold of a region-free DVD player (I can't imagine the university could complain too much about that, even if they were to find out, as there's nothing illegal about region-free players) that can convert NTSC video to PAL video, and find the best deals you can on R1 DVDs.

Don't change these.
