Lol not sure whether to put it here or Technology, but considering everyone loves to make fanart of her...
Anyhoo, i was wondering about the consequences of such software coming out now...
I mean, the creative potential this could unleash with songwriters with no, uh, voice (or maybe no female one lmao) can now fulfill their creative needs to a bit.
But now we've come to a precedent. We are now able to, more or less, synthesize a human singer's voice. Not perfect, and it's still based on samples of an original singer, but damn well near it.
If you were able to perfect this shit, wouldnt japanese idols kinda like go out of business so to speak? Japan would probably need the sex symbols still, but the creative aspect for their careers would be shot. I mean, how many of them actually write their own songs?
Plus, what happens when people start venting, goin "arrgh, yer takin the humanity out of it rabble rabble". But eventually technology will be able to replicate speech patterns perfectly... if not already.
Philosophically, it's kinda wierd. Bascially you're reducing even the human voice down to a mere instrument, moreso when you can manipulate it as much as you can through Vocaloid.

When sequencers, samplers, and digital audio editors came about 20-30 years ago many "traditional" musicians said the same thing. Now you're hard pressed to find a song today that doesn't include at least one virtual instrument, and many songs are created without any "real" instruments at all. It's always the same story: the older generation decries the new technology as blasphemous, while the younger generation embraces it. As the younger generation gets older, it becomes the norm. Then a new piece of technology comes about and the cycle starts again.

No, this will kill even the talented pop singers, which is sad. For the boy bands I have no problem with genocide.

People will listen and buy into the styles of music they like (how the market is supposed to work). If people enjoy this synthetic style of music, let 'em enjoy it. Synthetic/Synth-heavy vocals are already apparent in ALOT of music out there right now (mainly pop, look up an artist named 'Akon' XD). And chances are it's popularity in Japan has to do with the fact that it is an odd/newer medium for music at the moment.
I am interrested to see how close they can get these programs to mimic a human vocalists before it becomes... I guess, stealing their voice?_?
Then again who wouldn't love to mix and match their favorite songs with the vocalist they want to hear sing it? lulz. Sean Connery singing classic rock ftw... maybe ftl... but still awesome.
Think of it this way though; many singers sing other band's/musician's songs (mostly as a tribute). People still listen to the original singers.
Most people don't listen to just one group or musician. Just because Miku's good doesn't mean people will stop listening to Panic At The Disco, Utada Hikaru, Korn, Rammestein, and t.A.T.u.
People have been singing for centuries. Rap didn't ruin that(XD) and neither will Miku.

Hatsune Miku needs some sort of english-ish patch (I realize how it works) so I can bother screwing around with vocaloid.
I don't have a problem with Miku Hatsune or the whole Vocaloid project- Miku is so cute!! >w< But, I understand what you're getting at.
I think no matter what, people will go to music to express themselves -- regardless of what technology is made available. Real musicians will continue making music and hoping that other people out there will hear it and possibly relate to it.
Maybe this could serve to kill off some of the more synthetic pop "stars" that are only out there to be mass publicized...(i.e. Paris Hilton or The Jonas Brothers). -gag- >__>
I think what the world needs is more music education! More blues, more rock & ro~o~oll! ( > o <)9
In YouTube,
Korean people delete the animation of Miku.
This is Korean usual practice.
In Korea, both the government and the nation are Internet saboteur.
Therefore a lot of Koreans come for a net vote.
They are going to make Korea the first place.
Miku came first in the vote of the London Olympics.
Though the Korean voted for KPOOP.
Therefore the Korean was angry.
There was the before same thing.
In 4ch, injustice of Yuna-Kim became the topic.
Therefore the Korean struck anger, 2ch.
And the Korean forges the reproduction number of times.
Even if you are asked for unjust deletion, I can restore an animation.
Internet destruction work and the stealth bomber marketing are Korean usual practices.

Dear Save Miku team
I thank for your action.
But it is advice.
Even if you do SPM, there is not a meaning.
The Korean group aims at an animation of Miku with much number of the reproduction.
Their purpose is to send Miku out of reproduction several run homer King.
This is because they want to let KPOOP win.
YouTube copes with an unjust deletion request.
Let's investigate a basic solution!
