When I first saw DN, i thought it would be a change from the average kiddy anime crap that comes out these days. I mean, it had the formula, and everything down, but the plot holes and some characters just makes this anime fail. I'm sorry but this anime isn't gonna get people to think of anime as a serious medium anytime soon, because of it's major flaws.
The first half was made of awesome. Except for the obvious, me vs you in a duel see who wins, between Light and L.
And then when Misa was introduced the series just turned into another one of those Love anime like Love Hina. She's the epitime of the girls in those anime obsessed with a guy, trying to win their hearts. There was never any substantial reason why she fell in love with Light except, he looked atractive in her eyes. WTF, so many plot holes I can't explain. Misa was so retarded, how'd you figure she would know how to search for Kira and set that up that Kira would come by and she uses her eyes to figure him out.
Also Major plot hole, why the fuck in world would not only 1, but 2 Shinigami fall for Misa she has no fucking brain. Not only that but Rem a female Shinigami? Can Shinigami's be lesbos? That's just lame.

I think that Ray Penbar's fiance was 100X more interesting than Misa ever was as a female character.
If they creator wanted to introduce a female lead, maybe they could of used Ray Penbar's fiance more, it would of been interesting to see how it will play out if she got a hold of the death note instead of misa since she's a much more deep character and actually has a brain.
Also, it would make more sense if Rem has feelings for Ray's fiance since she just lost her husband, made no sense for rem to have feelings for Misa, cuz Misa had no brain, she didn't show any emotions accept for her dumb love obssesion for Light.

And the last episode was just made of fail. when I think of it now, if somebody wanted to watch Death Note, they should stop doing it around the last episode from Animanda (which was it? #20? #23?)
I watched episodes 1-26, then paused because the story was getting boring, and after few months (YA RLY!) just skimmed throughout rest of series, but watched whole last episode. MPlayer with 10 second fast forward was very helpful.

AGREE Ray Penbar's fiance was actually good ,when she was death i was expecting her to return but instead misa misa the stupid girl shoes up the fuck even the reporter light girl friend in the university would be better as a female lead
and the defeat of light was fucking stupid and ridicoulous mikami was a very preciscely man and do everything letter by letter so it was fucking ridiculous that he just looses
it was as stupid as the yugioh duels
nero i do that
light but i do this
nero but you loose because i do this
light oh noes i do this now
nero no you loose
I started watching kinda recently, up to ep16 atm and i do admit its lost a little of its grip from the first few episodes which really interested me. I like the whole "whooo mind games *pow* *pow* *zzap*" thing but now thats dragged on a little long and theres just a bit of a lack of real action.
and yeah Misa is really dissapointing...when i first saw her i thought that she looked like a strong girl whos willing to use men to get what she wants done (but im not like that!) and is manipulative....but in the end she just seems to be a mess, throwing herself at some guy i thought at first she was planning to use herself, not let him use her.
but for now i think ill keep watching it for Ryuzaki for now....so cute! <3

I watched it until L died it got too boring afterwards with mello and nate. I only watched the 2 last episodes to see if they ended it the same way as the manga. They did, EXACTLY! Fucking bad anime.

Cowboby Bebop and Darker than BLack >>>>>>>>>> Death Note!
The second arc is an acquired taste. I personally like Death Note as a whole. Warts and all and all that jazz, you know.

I think most mainstream anime in general is overrated. (Naruto sucks. Period.) For some reason, Deathnote never really attracted my attention, even though I like dark anime. =/

Holy crap. The first episodes were okay but the series shouldve ended with Light, his father, and Misa in the car. Maybe he shot him and her and then killed himself. That was around episode 16?? The yotsuba arc was gay as fuck and the ending was shit. There's too many plot holes in the series and it's not "intelligent" or "psychological" like it's cracked up to be. The creator skirted around any moral issues like a pussy because he wanted to make a thriller that wasn't thrilling. He get half-assed flat characters like Light the egotistical sexist bastard, L the emo looking overrated fangirl bait, Near the childish prick, Mello the...wierd. Misa is cute though but I wanted her to kill light or something, so she's shit too. Rem was bloody awesome though. Bitchi shinigami. Ryuk didn't have enough screentime. The show was stupid and unrealistic
I never thought ANYTHING like this about Death Note--- but now that I think about it, I only watched cuz of L... and in season 2, I skipped half the episodes JUST so I could see the last episode... -.-' BUTTTT!!! They added BB!!! AND HEZ AWESOME!!! ^.^
Thank you for sharing this article. It is great! There are some information which will help me very much.

It's people like this that are the reason I hate anime fanbases. I slightly enjoyed Death Note back when it came out, but it is highly overrated. It seems the only people who love it are yaoi fanwhales like the two I quoted, or people who have only watched a few series.
