"Lucky Star" is one of the best anime shows of all time. It is by far the funniest comedy anime ever created, far surpassing breakthrough shows like "Pani Poni Dash!" and "Cromartie High School". The 2002 anime "Azumanga Daioh" is the only other show that comes close. When you watch a comedy show, it is common to smile, chuckle or laugh - but when you watch "Lucky Star", particularly the first two to three episodes, you find yourself laughing so hard it hurts. This is a laugh out loud and stomp your feet show thanks to a brilliant comic talent - KyoAni. Many people who I have talked to about this show have said they "don't get it" and that the rapid fire otaku cultural references fly over their heads. I say, exactly. This show is clever and sharp and if you actually laugh at crap like "Ouran High School Host Club", you won't "get" this show either. Unlike every other pale, bland humored show out there, "Lucky Star" is full flavored, knock you on your ass funny. Do not miss the chance to see it every time its released, you'll be witnessing anime history.

Lucky Star is mostly popular with older boys, roughly between the ages of 16~24 years of age (known as 'otaku'). It's popular for a variety of reasons, the first of which is that the designs are very cute, conveying a friendly atmosphere devoid of personal fears and the like, essentially a paradise of no worries. At the same time, though, that is, underneath the girl's clothing, are very developed bodies capable of the "mature" things boys crave - effectively, it's the best of both worlds for these otaku.

But what about the content? Otaku aren't known for being social - they love "mature" acts with girls but have no idea about how they actuall work or how to interact with girls. Lucky Star offers those boys an opportunity to observe girls in their natural habitat, rendering this a "documentary anime" - it demystifies the stereotypes of girls by showing that they have interests, thoughts and feelings as well, that they exist as humans and that their sole purpose on this world is not for "mature" acts.

That is not to say they are not aware of their biological capabilities - indeed, during many parts of the show they joke about their anatomy, and no doubt they also think about boys in the same way boys think about them.

Looking for a new anime to watch? Try watching Lucky Star.

Although it was geared to target those with specific tastes in “moe” and “loli” this title actually contains stuff that you don’t usually take time to think and realize about.

For instance, how to eat a croquette. Do you start at the top opening or the bottom part that looks like a cone? It also talks about the more normal everyday school routines, like doing homework, cramming for assignments after summer breaks and participating in school events.

Rare to some Anime titles, it also includes some issues on video gaming among youth and how they handle it. I for one can relate to this Anime because during my time, MMOs were at its infancy and was steadily becoming the rage.

One thing that actually made me watch the series is also the ending theme. Its never the same. The main characters are happily singing away random Japanese songs. Some from Anime, others from old live action series and others popular songs at the time.

Oh and did I mention that one of the characters is actually the voice actress of Haruhi Suzumiya (Aya Hirano)?

The best anime ever, without any doubt, is Lucky Star. Not only is the plot amazing, it delivers important themes about society and has a lot of symbols about religion. Pisses me off that people don't understand how beautiful this anime is and I just want to punch them in the face.
