Alright, I must admit I watched Rozen Maiden, and even enjoyed it somewhat at that.  I'll just say that I like Project Ali anime though if anyone asks what I liked about it in order to preserve my elite status.

The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi is basically the deepest anime with the best storyline, with THE BEST animation for a concert scene ever, and other fight scenes. It's pretty much amazing.

Or more generally, anything that's more than ten years (might be a little more, digimation kicked in somewhere around there) old.  Basically, if there are no pubes on the cels, it sucks.  There are probably a couple shows that I exclude, due to their popularity, Evangelion, for example, and anything Miyazaki (I'll ignore the fact that he's worked on RUPANN.)

I can't believe people are actually getting into anime nowadays, how can they stand the lifeless digimation and the moneygoldsgrubbing cliques?

Good choice. That's a great anime, but you seem to base your choice of anime on how obscure you believe it is, rather than how good it actually is.

But the Lupin III property has been producing anime since the 1980's, and the manga was in serialization for years. It's not exactly an unpopular anime/manga. The fact that it's been around for so long is testament to that. There have been many video games created based on the series. In Japan, I even saw a light gun game (like Virtua Cop) based on the series (sadly, the game sucked). The TV series has run for hundreds of episodes, and I'm sure that more people (maybe not in the United States) know about Lupin III than do about Suzumiya Haruhi, which has yet to even get remotely close to Lupin in the sheer number of episodes, much less video games or volumes of manga. Lupin III is considered a classic in Japan. A far cry from how obscure you make it out to be. Since so many people like it, does that mean it also must be horrible?

Digital animation used incorrectly can seriously kill an anime. I'm not sure what you think of an anime like Akira (too popular for you?) but the traditional cel animation in it was amazing (albeit extremely costly). Same goes with Honneamise, Patlabor 2 and a couple of others. Digital animation lacks a lot of the imperfection that seemed to bring the characters to life. But many older traditional cel animated anime also took shortcuts in their production, so ultimately, those aesthetically had their own shortcomings. At least most series animated digitally don't end up reusing sequences.

Ok, Im some differnt guy coming in and spreading my shitty opinion around. Lupin is popular and has been around for decades and is one of the top classic animes in Japan. It is popular, but that doesnt make it "good." Well, I think it sucks because every episode is the fricken same thing. Lupin searches for some treasure, Fujiko tries to turn on Lupin, but that doesnt happen and Zenigata tries to arrest Lupin and his gang. I havent seen EVERY Lupin episode and dont plan on it but that makes a pretty boring series. Then again, this is just my shitty opinion. Though I gotta say, Lupin is better than all this moe crap that has been coming out. Whats this topic about again? Oh, Haruhi. Haruhi has moe in it. With the increase in moe anime and its popularity, no wonder why Haruhi is so popular. It just about goes after EVERY moe type of character. So it just appeals to a wide variety of people. And other than the moe shit, it has a lot of other redeeming qualities. What the fuck am I saying? i fucking hate Haruhi.
