Where to start

Name: Anonymous 2006-12-26 9:14

I want to get into anime, but I don't know where to start. What should I be watching?

Thanks.

GTFO. It's a great series.

So helpful, thanks a lot.

start with a classic like Cowboy Bebop or EVA. something that doesnt suck balls like an overpriced hooker at a detroit best western

depends on what type of anime in particular you think you want.  Cowboy Bebop is great, but might not appeal if you just want giant robots kicking the hell out of other giant things.  and EVA is great, unless you're looking for something involving two-thousand-year-old board game playing ghosts.  and of course, neither of them help if you're just looking for ninjas and pirates made out of rubber.

If you want giant robots beating the shit out of each other, watch Neon Genesis: Evangelion or Gundam SEED.

If you want action (but not of the giant robot variety), watch Ninja Scroll or Hellsing.

If you want comedy, watch School Rumble or Great Teacher Onizuka.

>If you want comedy

You don't want comedy though. Trust me on this.

>>6 Good grief, you put Gundam as an alternative to Evangelion. Enjoy your lobotomy

EVA is so hard||

Watch Great Teacher Onizuka, has comedy, some action, and it's really easy to watch. Worked for me.

Whatever you do, don't watch EVA first - leave it for when you get further into anime.

Watch Great Teacher Onizuka

i wuld persnally recommend NARUTO lol it rawks maha cawks

Evangelion is cool and deep, but not instantly appealing.
Watch Azumanga Daioh, I've never met a single person who hasn't liked it. It's funny as hell.

Azumanga Daioh is massive win, but maybe not the best place to start.

I've been enjoying Full Metal Panic lately, you could give it a shot.

WTF? Anime is like movies or books - there's no start and finish point to it. Just pick up a title that looks like it could be interesting and start watching it. Unless you're merely trying to troll in which case GTFO.

I don't like Azumanga. I lold a few times but overall it was quite boring. If that would've been my first anime, I would've never watched anime again.

If you're more into action, Full Metal Alchemist is epic win, and One Piece is good, but looooooong.

What about Dragon Ball, every anime fan saw that one. It was the starting point for many anime otakus. Although I'm kinda joking, you probably already watched it and it's really not that good.

Full Metal Alchemist is win, so you might want to look into that. It was voted the most popular/watched (not sure) anime in japan in a survey by TV ASAHI (sp?), if I'm not mistaken.

Many of the anime series recomended on this thread would make a good start, but if the one you pick does not suit your tastes, remember to not judge anime just for that one serie.

Also posting wich tipe of anime genre you are interested in seeing would be a big help.

It was the starting point for many anime otakus.
And also the point where many non-retards stopped watching anime because they got a horrible first impression.

Excel Saga is absolutely not a good place for someone to start. Way too many genre references for a non-fan to find it appealing.

go to anidb.net.  take note of the titles listed in the top ten panels.  download the first 2-4 episodes of each series.  watch them.  if you like them, download more, or buy the damned dvds.

Name: Ryan 2007-01-20 22:31

The titles I started with are Street Fighter II The animated movie, Ghost in the Shell, Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture and Ninja Scroll. They are all titles that I still watch today. After that I got into Ranma 1/2, Evangelion, Blue Seed, El Hazard...Oh God I could go on forever...If you want more awesome anime suggestions email me.

BIG AGREEMENT HERE!!!!!!!!

Name: Anonymous 2007-01-21 14:40

I wouldn't want to be caught dead with anime DVDs in my room.

In fact, if I were to commit suicide, I'd throw out the anime DVDs first.
