Hi guys, im just going from board to board asking people if they would rather pirate/download license anime or buy it. I would like to hear from you guys if you like to watch it for free or pay 30$ for freaking 3 episode dvd. And i know those ppl from ann forum would mostly pay for theirs

I watch anime on my computer, and if I feel I'll want to watch something more than once, I'll also buy it. As for mangas, I either buy them, or read them at the store if I'm only mildly interested.

I like watching things on my computer more than on DVD because its less hassle. I prefer japanese w/subs to english dubs, which makes it annoying to watch on DVD because i have to change language setting every disk, not to mention the hassle of changing disks every 3-5 episodes. Since I often watch large quantities of episodes at a time, this annoys me. Additionally I don't feel the need to pay American companies/VAs for their crappy dub jobs.

However, if a company (American or Japanese) were to release official subtitled anime online for (high speed) download, I wouldn't be opposed to paying for it-provided it was
a) high quality video
b) released in sync with the anime's debut on japanese TV (or VERY shortly thereafter. If ppl can sub anime in a day for free there's no excuse why ppl getting paid can't also do so)
Something like an official, high quality fansub. I'd pay for that.

As for Manga I buy it. Can't stand looking at manga on my computer, it hurts my eyes x.x

i'll usually download and watch anime on my computer while it's being fansubbed, but if it's a good series and it's licensed, i like to have the actual dvd in my collection (assuming the price is reasonable -- $30 for 4 or 5 episodes is about as high as i'll go unless it's an incredible series).  if it's licensed and i've not actually seen it, i'll usually download the first couple episodes to see if it's worth buying before shelling out the money (unless i've already read and enjoyed the manga.  i'm more cautious about series i know nothing about except reviews.)

i generally prefer to get series in box sets rather than buying individual discs -- look better, often take up less space, and generally cheaper than buying them one at a time.

much the same with manga, except that i'm far more likely to buy a manga i like than an anime i like, given the choice.

mediocre series, i prefer to pirate.  unless i find them in a bargain bin somewhere, they're just not worth the price.  unfortunately, they're the ones more likely to be available at the store when i go shopping, while the good stuff remains unstocked or unlicensed.

well i just pirate animes. I dont know but for some reason i dont like paying as high as 30$ for a 3 episode disc. And box sets are also expensive ( +$100). I mean i have something better spend with my money. As for mangas, i always read it through once and thats why i go to barnes and nobles or other books stores

I usually buy shows that I see in english at first. When I'm scouring the internet for unliscensed anime, I don't even think of what it'll be like when it comes out here, and just delete it once I'm done with it.

I'm also broke a lot of the time, so that kind of affects my position too.

I have to buy anime, so that I can masturbate in the case and then sneak it back onto the shop shelf.

I always stand against piracy......but I even more against buying genuine copy!

I'll occasionally buy the legits. Like on Monday I bought the whole Patlabor TV series legit R1. But I happened to be out buying shit already and it was cheap.
I usually don't get through all the stuff I download, so it would be foolishly wasteful to go out of my way to spend money on more.

Don't change these.
