We call it that because you are stupid. "Anime" is actually アニメ, short for アニメション, "animation." It's a Japanese contraction that people in America picked up. Happy?

im not from the USA, im "Latino" and when people ask me what im watching, if i tell them "anime", they don't understand, so i tell them "cartoons" so they can get it
