Neon genesis evangelion...

Hello.

I've recently become interested in watching Neon Genesis evangelion. Is it worth watching? For years I've heard so many people talk about it, and most of them seemed to think it was very good; but I'd like to see what you guys think. I did look at the wikipedia page about it, and it looks pretty interesting.

Also, does anyone know of where I could find a full box set containing all the episodes available for purchase (preferably in the UK)? I did find this:

but it seems to be some kind of limited edition and is very expensive. Is there a cheap DVD box set, or is that the only one?

It's one of a small handfull of 'definitive' animes that everyone who watches anime should see at least once.  It's always been controversial, and quite often polarises it's viewers.  It requires a fair amount of interpretation though.
The original series was 26 episodes, and then an ill-advised release called 'death and rebirth' was issued which was a cobbled-together piece of rubbish to make a fast buck whilst people were waiting for the eventually-released 'end of Evangelion'.  In addition, a 'directors cut' version of the last few episodes of the series was made which eventually led us to the accepted watching sequence of:
Evangelion series (watch the 'directors cut' version and (if memory serves correctly) stop watching after ep. 24
followed by 'end of Evangelion'

Do not watch the last 2 eps of the original series and do not watch 'death and rebirth'

I think there have been a total of three versions released (I think another one is in the works).  IIRC the 'platinum' version is the one to get and has the 'directors cut' versions of the later episodes.  It's pulling power for the buyers is such that it's a complete cash cow, and it seems any new release will always sell.

I f any of the stuff above is incorrect I'm sure someone will correct me - but basically go for the platinum set or wait for the new release (on second thoughts you might not want to - I hear rumours of it costing many hundreds of bux/euros/pounds)

Eva box sets are very very expensive. my advice? download for the short term, and save up to buy later, or go to an anime con and get one of those 3 DVD box sets. i got one for 60 bucks and it came with the entire series + the two movies. much cheaper than buying the 'complete' set, which basically makes you buy all the single 30 dollar DVD's together, instead of compiling them into a fewer number of discs.

Evangelion Unit 02 is Jesus.
