Where are all the Sports Anime?

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-18 18:38

I'm a big fan of sports anime, but the last one I remember starting up is the second season of Major, which isn't even a new series.  It seems like usually there's at least one show every season or two - has there been anything in the last few seasons, or perhaps coming up soon?

I'm pretty loose in my definition, I'd even consider something like Yakitate or HnG to be "sports anime".

early Yakitate, maybe.  later into the series it felt more like "Baking with DBZ"

they don't make all that many, but the ones they do make seem to go on forever.  Eyeshield 21?  Prince of tennis?
Your average sport anime is around 3 times as long as the non-sport average.
Anyhow  - the only new stuff I can think of are sequels too - 'play ball' and the new 'ring ni kakero'.  One that finished and you might have missed was 'Suzuka' - it's a romance thing, but based around track and field athletes.

AKAGI

All the sports stuff can be found in manga :x

Ooh, haven't heard of Play Ball, Suzuka, or Akagi - I'll check those out.  I watched the first episode of Ring, and it didn't impress me that much, but I loved Hajime no Ippo.  Should I give Ring ni Kakero another chance?
