which genre rubs you the way? (serious thread

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-28 20:31

I have a problem with shojo because i just dont like books where the female is the hero. (this is also why I have a tough time watching the Disney channel, because of the more girl shows) Usually because of the way that guys are protrayed in the stories. They usually are bumbling idiots, helpless or evil and always losing a fight. I belive this is because i never had enough male role models and there fore the idea of a strong chracter who could save the world and stop all evil with just a swing of a sword or the force of a punch or the utterance of a single word really appealed to me. I'll give it to the japanese for beginning to treat women more as equals (loosest sense).

Let's see...
Shonen, largely, but only until it hits major filler.
Other than that, I'd say I don't have problems with whole genres, just individual series.

Anime that's deep and philosophical like the GITS movies, Lain, Boogiepop

Name: Anonymous 2006-05-29 23:21

I didn't like any of GITS because it was just too friggin' boring!  Yap yap yap blah blah blah shut up and shoot somebody dammit! I enjoy me a good philosophical show if it's done well, particularly if it's character driven.

Shows that I don't like are the fighting ones with girls with massive breasts getting their clothes ripped off for no reason. The genres of action and porn don't mix too well together in the medium...the focus is a bit off.

seinen ftw

You're obviously to stupid to understand GITS ^_______^

The shows I hate? Shitty Echi\Fanservice\Harem animes. Fuck them, worthless mindless garbage. It's like the Anime version of trash TV. Fuck you Harem, Fuck you.

It's "too stupid," jackwad. Learn grammar before calling people stupid.

Confusing too and to is a grammar problem. If he spelled sure "shure" and I corrected it as grammar, then I would be wrong. Fuckhead.

But what if he made a typographical error, huh?

...Everyone here stays on topic so well.

I hate when anime is geared towards men in that HORRIBLE, mindless, boob oggling sense. There aren't enough animes geared towards women that are like that, honestly. It's agrivating when Huge Breasted Anime Girl #45 has her own show, yet Holy Shit NoseBleed TooHotForWords Man #1 can't even get a debut. :(

Only entire shoujo anime male cast that I really hate are Sailor Moon's... Tuxedo Mask is the biggest joke of a wannabe cool anime character ever. The awesome female characters redeem the shitty male cast though.

Genre that I hate? None, really... if I like the characters, I'll like the show, and every genre has interesting characters spread throughout.

I'd like to start a comic/manga some day, maybe just a webmanga or something. Nothing serious. But the main character is female, but I'd hardly consider it shoujo. Some males are bumbling idiots, but so are some females. Just as some males are badass and awsm. The main character is too emo to be awsm, though. x: And no fucking romance, aside from maybe little pairings. I hate romance manga.

In fact, those are the things that rub me the wrong way. Romance manga. Be it het, yaoi, or yuri. Het is usually insanely girly and flowery and sappy and all the art styles look the same and there is always something that keeps them from getting together untl book fucking ten, OH NO!

Yaoi manga is generally grade A shit, though. What, everyone in the world is suddenly gay? And all gay lovers must be a small blond boy and a tall, badass, brown-haired guy? I have yet to find an enjoyable yaoi manga.

And yuri is usually just geneic sex and panty shots. Laaaame.

There's alot to get from each genre, so I don't dislike any particular ones.

But, for some reason, I just can't stand watching anime based on dating games. I can't put my finger on it, but there's something there that really rubs me the wrong way.

It must be something specific, though, 'cause I can almost always tell if the series I'm watching is based on a game... Even if I know nothing about the anime/game in the first place.

Usually an anime with a likable hero (Golden Boy) I enjoy or an anime with a true love factor (Ah! My Goddess, Mahoromatic, not so much Love Hina).

Just because someone found GITS boring doesn't mean they're stupid. Just because someone prefers not to watch anime that has philosophical undertones doesn't mean they don't understand it.
^___________________________________________^
When someone makes that face on the internet after trying to be smug and cute, it's really annoying. I DON'T LIKE IT.
I must not understand it!

You can't go wrong with stuff by Mohiro Kitoh

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-13 9:01

i don't really dislike any anime except shounen shit like inuyasha where it's not really action oriented, but more "OMG HAWT BISHIES KAWAII ^_______^"

other than that, i usually like most everything

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-14 9:39

Seinen and some Shoujo

I dont like Shounen because they usually drag on far too long, even without fillers(yakitate and bleach come to mind). With fillers its unbearable. And i agree with >>6, i really hate ecchi/fanservice/harem anime.

Some Shoujo is awesome, even as a straight ... well, I'm not that picky ... guy.  Try Basara!

i dont like the flowery romance ones, but there are some good ones like the Wallflower manga

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-15 15:33

MARS was pretty good for a shoujo manga.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-15 16:17

I tried to watch a Shoujo anime once (Fushigi Yuugi) but didn't make it past the first episode. The constant references to cute guys were just too much for me.

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-15 17:02

Hana Yori Dango, or "Boys over Flowers," is pretty good as well.  I stopped reading it though as I didn't want to turn gay.

Pretty good as in "like Fushigi Yuugi" or pretty good as in pretty good?

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-15 18:38

Pretty good as in the "female nose-bleed" way IIRC.  Hm, I think I'll try to finish it.

Anyway, try Basara!  Hot sodomizing action!

Don't change these.
