hey there,
I remember reading a website that was written by an enterprising group of Japanese people who (for a pet project) found a place where there was lots of anime related graffiti, bought a pad of A4 paper and left it there tied to a post or a tree. I think the book was on a hill somewhere, I remember seeing photographs of the location with a town stretching off into the distance.
They documented (very acurately) the "scribbles" (I think this is what they called it) and I believe this was all to do with a Studio Ghibli film.
I've found http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/%7Ehn7y-mur/mimisuma/mimilink08e.htm from "Mimi wo Sumaseba" but thats not the site with the graffiti book.
Does anyone else remember reading this? I'd like to find the link again and google comes up with too many unrelated Ghibli sites when I search with what little I can remember.
Help!
