I really enjoyed the show, and was thinking of grabbing the comic.
How good is the translation on it though? It'll be my first manga, so I was wondering if official translations are bad like dubs. should i try and find a scanlation somewhere on the net?

Try Toriyamoworld's translations.. they're good...
there are a lot of points how the anime and the manga is different..
*SPOILER ALERT
examples are, Ed is more serious in the anime than in the manga..
Ed likes to exaggerate a lot of stuff in the manga than in the anime..
The Anime's sloth in a woman, while in the manga, a giant
Manga: Fuhrer = Wrath Anime: Fuhrer = Pride

SPOILERS!!!!
The Manga does not suck balls like the anime and the movie together!
The FMA Manga has better character portrayal, better artwork, a different and more decent story, much better humor, less useless angst, more blood and gore, more story about the characters instead of focusing only on the Elrics.

You sir are forgetting that 90% of the people outside Japan who watched an anime never read (or maybe even heared of) the manga before hand, which should be the way it is meant to be.
Since every series starts out as a Manga which gets turned into an anime if it gets popular and unfortunately the anime's story quickly catches up with the Manga's story and once it'S there the anime's creators are left to come up with the rest of the story and the ending themselves without knowing how the hell the manga will end. That is why most animes start to suck miserebly storywise after awhile *cough cough* EVA, Naruto, FMA, Hikaru no Go, Tenjo Tenge, *cough cough* often some characters never appear many characters are changed and important events never happen or happen completely differently. That is one curse of this media system.
Of course the mindless zombie fandom that the majority of the fanbase consist of doesn't even know this.
Eva wasn't a manga first. It was a physical print of Hideki Anno's angst ridden teen memories the he felt just 'had to come out'. Manga eva is awesome too though. Shinji is slightly less pathetic and Rei shows alot more interest in him.

i believe you"l find that the movie will be in english sometime early 2007 not long after volume 13 of the DVDs, depending on how well the series sold obviously depends on if funimation picks it up
or better yet hope the 3rd dvd box has 5 spaces, if its 4, the no Movie for you.. at least not yet lol

What I hope for is that they decide to include Fullmetal Fantasy 1 + 2 on the DVD for the movie.
I'm not 13, but I must say that Evanglion's manga, drawn and written by Gainax's own Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, first appeared in print four months previous to the anime.
That's right. It's been running for ten years. And to date, nine volumes.
That's less than eight chapters a year.
As much as I love him, Sadamoto is the most unproductive mangaka to graze the face of this our Earth.

>>30 Thats a load of bullshit. The manga was created long after the series to tell the story from shinji's perspective. Evangelion the anime was very loosly planned, it was designed to be easily commercialised. Then Anno poured all his angst into it.
Sadamoto is doing a great job.
