Stuff that looks good consistently. Plot, dialogue, etc are irrelevant.
Hellsing did this. Elfen Lied did this in some episodes. Berserk does this often. Texhnolyze is based upon this. Serial Experiments Lain defines this. Cat Soup defines this.
The anime named are beautiful, and I'd love to see more like them.

It is old, but the Kenshin OAV is quite beautiful at times.. "Kai Doh Maru" is good too.

Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Christo
This series is so beautiful, even the fan subs are a piece of work. Believe me, you will not be disappointed.

i second the motion for Gankutsuou.
Last Exile is another that hasn't been mentioned yet.
NFN but I'm sick & tired of shoujo or vis novel-ish anime series like AIR so that's when I too picked up Gankutsuou.
Check it out already!!!
Oh, and just to throw it out there... GUNGRAVE

Gankutsuou is good for this during the first few episodes but unforunately, becomes 'normal' after the three-quarters mark. Same with Technolyze. Platonic Chain had fairly good CG I think... and Honey & Clover looked visually beautiful to me all the way through but that's in a shoujo way.

OMG, the scene where Albert's mother is pleading to the Count on his Doorstep, just after realising who he is! How can you call that normal? Just the sheer amount of raw emotion is enough to get under somebody's skin. I admit, it might not be for everybody, but I woulnd never call it normal under any circumstances.

That happens in episode 17, which is just before the three-quarters mark. But even then, I was talking about the art alone and compared to the first few episodes, the art isn't as 'fantastic' -- no more crazy, moving textured surfaces.
Or maybe I was just bitter that the stupid brat got a happy ending when he didn't deserved one.

Man, I wish they still made good anime.

Lol, ok so maybe the bratty kid did not deserve it but that's besides the point. Every animated series out there has faced the problem of budgeting near the end of it's run. So while it would have been nicer if this was the exception, it wasn't but at the same time, it was still far beyond the quality of animation from other series. Take for example, BECK. It's a fine anime if I do say so myself but the ending crapped out and all we got was a still picture of a club with some talking/singing in the background. Oh, and don't even get me goin' on Evangelion! >P (I'm sure I'm gonna probably get flamed for that last remark but whateva') So, you see, unless you've got a gigantic corporation behind it (ie - Disney) it's gonna face most of the same problems as other shows have in the years gone by.
