Oshii a furry?

I'm watching a rather bad BBC series called Japanorama, in which Oshii Mamoru (Ghost in the Shell and so on) is interviewed and explains the basset hounds of his films. According to the BBC voice-over, he claims to believe that he was such a dog in a previous life, and/or simply wants to be one.

Is he a furry, and if so, where do I find some really strong sleeping pills and a proper 12-gauge?

I don't see how that makes him a furry.  More along the lines of standard Asian belief of reincarnation.

He does have a thing for basset hounds, but that doesn't change the fact that he makes bloody briliant films ^^

Indeed; I recall a japanese tale of someone being reincarnated into a butterfly so while this is an odd take on an old tale, it's a popular belief in japan. Now if this old dog will step in on the tv series, that would be most spectactular! ^^
