If you liked Ghost in the Shell manga, try Appleseed. Same mangaka, same art, same humour but with the politics and cyborg stuff toned down.
Patlabor did a manga run too I believe.

Yeah, Patlabor. The story in Appleseed is a bit incoherent. Try MADOX-01 and Robot Carnival.
