FMP2: Where are the 0-day subs??

Name: Anonymous 2005-08-04 0:28

It's really odd for a series that is highly anticipated and popular, I havent seen a single fansub group yet release a 0-day sub.

And before someone says the usual anti 0-day sub stuff, yes I understand I get this free so I ain't go no right demanding. I am just wondering. And as much as 0-day subs are usually not 100% sometimes I'd rather just get the gist of the translation and then download the better version later.

don't know if it's still 0-day, but it's out

I'm surprised by this lack of subs as well. Sometimes it takes half a week or more for the subs to come out after the ep airs.

You should be grateful it's getting subbed at ALL. What are you, 15?

I always hated that term "0-day" fansubs ok FANSUBS! stop saying 0-day this 0-day that, those terms are for stupid script kiddies that think they are "133+"

Waah, waah, baby has to wait as much as several days after Japanese people to see his cartoons.

You kids don't even know you're born. Come back when you've got it through your heads that you used to be fortunate to watch an eighth-generation VHS Hecto fansub of some eight year old show. Fucking spoiled brats.

So writes someone who doesn't use punctuation, periods or captial letters. My post is coherent, it is your grasp of reading that fails you.

Oh come on, Hecto subs weren't THAT bad.  Neither were Arctic Anime.

I used punctuation, please reread the post if you have a hard time seeing it.

How about trying to use it correctly next time?

Back in my day, we sat around the TV with typed scripts in our hands. We had to, ya know, look away from the TV to see what was said. Sometimes a kid with 2 semesters of Japanese would stand up and narrate the show instead. It was a blast, let me tell you!

"Uhm.. I don't know.. Dunno.. Something about socks.. or death. Oh, probably death, given that he just died. Hmm.. hmm, that guy might've been named Takashi. Or Takeshi. Or Takushi.. or, maybe they're just calling a taxi? I'm so confused."

0-day subs are the worst thing to happen to fansubbing, ever. Even during the bootlegger days of S.Baldric, E.Monsoon things weren't as bad as they are today. No wonder the anime industry is in dire straights. Thanks kids, for killing my hobby. :p

>>16 if you're *really* that old, you should be tending to your grand children instead of fapping to DBZ in your basement.

I watched raw anime and ad-libbed everything with no knowledge of Japanese.  It works wonders for DBZ, Dr Slump, Dragon Quest, Uresei Yatsura, Slayers, Akira...

How's it kill your hobby? No one's forcing 0-day down your throat.

Name: Anonymous 2005-08-12 5:53

wtf is 0day subs?

(note, I'm not the original poster of >>16)

Because it used to be that fansubbers actually PURCHASED the anime they subtitled - the import for source, and sometime any official domestic releases later.  And those who liked what they saw did the same.  I bought any number of import LDs because I liked fansubs I saw.

Reminds me of the one time I attended an anime convention.  They were showing the Utena movie and it drew a fair amount of people but they failed to make it clear that they were showing the raw JP DVD.

So after the first few minutes, people realised and starting booing and hissing, some even walked out.  Then some Utena cosplaying guy stands up and shouts "I have the entire translated script with me, I can read out the lines if you want."

So in the end, we ended up watching the entire Utena movie to the monotone voice of an Utena geek reading off his translated script in his Utena cosplay.  He did a pretty good job too.

(Holy shit >>16 sounds old, even when I got in, genlocking was already passed its prime and that was almost a decade ago)

That's right and you STILL can purchase import sources (don't know if they still make LDs though). Just because other people are stealing sources, doesn't mean you have to do the same. Fansubbing was originally done for a relatively small group of friends. Subs were not meant to be widely distributed. You can still do that. So my question stands, how does it kill your hobby? Are your friends running off for 0-day subs?
