One of the best anime shows ever, if not the best.
Anyone agree?
I watch the fansubs by K-F and although the last few episodes have been fillers, this show has given me so many incredible moments. I don't know how many times I rewatched the episodes with Chopper and Dr. Hiluluk or the end of the Arabasta arc.
Chopper giving the amiudake to Hiluluk is such an incredible event, so perfectly presented with the music, the seiiyu are amazing...
But there's one thing that I really hope I won't forget to do when the time comes that this series has taught me: Smile when I die.
Keep them "nerd!"-posts coming, but what I'd like to see is whether there are people who rank One Piece the same as Evangelion or Escaflowne as well.
It's nothing but a typical shonen anime. Entertaining? Sure, why not. Best anime ever? Hell no.

I think its my favorite anime, definatly contends to be the best anime to date... though Evangelion and Escaflowne sucked =/

One Piece is an awesome anime. Personally, it is my favorite.
Typical shonen anime? Sure, it holds all of the aspects of a shonen, but there are many things that put it above typical.
The story is EXTREMELY moving. I don't know how many times I cried while watching the end of the Arabasta arc, and I can only see it getting better.
The characters have great depth to them. Each of them comes with a moving backstory that does nothing but deepen as the series progresses.
I know that for many people shonen in general are not their type of show. Keep that in mind when judging this show, and please don't simply dismiss it at that.
I also know that many people that like shonen may have watched the first few episodes, maybe more, and then discarded it because it wasn't good enough then. I encourage those people to watch one of the later story arcs. Nami's story is very moving, and a very good place to get hooked.
And for the people that just plain didn't like it, I'm sorry. I truly enjoy this series and wish that all others could do the same.

dbz, one piece, naruto, all the same crap.

How DARE you compare DBZ to One Piece and Naruto!!!!
Dragonball Z is nothing but long fights with constant recaps and powerups, each fight lasting for 1-4 hours with almost no actual content.
Naruto and One Piece have very involved fights, with a lot of actual action, and a decent amount of plot. It's more than just endless fights with the same "save the Earth...again" plot. Anyone who says otherwise has obviously not seen these shows and are not qualified to judge them.

Because Saturday morning cartoons shouldn't cater to the nine-year-old market watching them, they should cater to the college-age otaku waking up early to watch and obsessively taking notes on what they RUINED BECAUSE AMERIKKKANS ARE TOO DUMB
Or maybe it's because our country is such a bunch of whiney uptight PC douchebags that we have to have everything sanitized to Disneyesque levels of harmlessness?
It's alright, the voices make my head hurt, though. I think it needs to grow on me a bit. The idea of some hyperactive pirate kid is pretty cool, though.

As far as shounen anime that gets compared to DBZ a lot goes, I'd rate One Piece somewhere above Naruto but below Bleach. This opinion may change, though, since I've only seen fourteen episodes so far.
But if we're talking about shounen anime that might even have a chance at contesting for the title of "ZOMG TEH BESTEST ANIME EVARRR", then Fullmetal Alchemist is the way to go.

Well...why should a show that's made to cater to teenagers 13-15+ (I BELIEVE that's the demographic Shonen Jump aims for) be dumbed down for 8-10 year olds?

Because that's the (perceived) audience that watches animation in the US, that's why.
No age is given, but personally my guess would be 8-12. There's no way younger kids wouldn't be reading DBZ/Naruto/etc every week. What kid that age WOULDN'T be reading fighting manga? Ultra Jump seems more teen-demographic (more violence, more sex). This is just an guess though, and obviously, people outside of the demographics read the books.
It gets a lot better as it goes along, imho. One of my favorites, probably second below The Vision Of Escaflowne.

I think a lot of people miss the point of One Piece, because they see that it's shounen and has long fights, and assume it must be a pile of shit (as well as a lot of people not liking the art). One Piece is about friendship and dreams, not "I TRAIN 2 BE TEH BEST" as it appears.
Long ago, I remember seeing a trailer for a One Piece movie and saying, "What the FUCK is wrong with the art?" I looked into it and everyone couldn't stop crapping themselves over it, but I figured it couldn't be THAT good. So I decided to give it a try, and immediately liked the characters and humor.
Then, later, when it moved into characters' backgrounds and Luffy's speeches during arcs, it got really emotional and touching. And the fights were pretty fucking awesome.
It's a really wonderful series, and anyone who writes it off after seeing only a few episodes is not giving it a fair chance, because things don't really start to pick up until later. (And if you still don't like the anime, the manga is better.)
tl;dr: Don't judge things by their genre/first few episodes, faggots.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Seriously, I pity the fool who cries watching a children's show. How lame do you have to be?

No way, they should be one episode and un-climatic, totally wasting the build-up of the arc, wherein you get to see the villain get a good fight which they deserve. Also, the other characters shouldn't be able to fight their battles, because screw character growth!

I watched one episode, and wanted to spit in disgust. I could have downloaded something decent with that intraweb time. One Piece FTL.
It's one level below EVA. But it's way better than most shonen series.

except pre-greed-island hunter x hunter; the one shonen show that refused to suck for a while (cept for a few shitty battle tower eps in the middle)
