Why does 99% of all shoujo manga look so bland and crap, and every story is about these bishii bishii freaks with spiderlimbs and bee-stung lips? After reading through some shoujo weekly thing from Japan, I almost had nightmares. That was seriously the freakiest and ugliest thing ever. I'd rather have Goatse and Tubgirl than this utter crap. At least Tubgirl is cute. :3

She is cute, that is why they call her Tubgirl-chan

Then why look at the males in the first place? FOCUS ON THE WOMEN. It's liable to help.

Why are so many shonen manga full of ridiculously busty, shallowly-characterized female characters flashing their panties?
Because guys like to look at them. Girls in Japan (and apparently other countries too) like looking at pretty skinny boys.
Just because they're girls doesn't mean their preferred art style/sexual fantasies/objects of lust/fanservice are any more retarded or freakish than the kind boys enjoy.
>ridiculously busty, shallowly-characterized female characters >flashing their panties?
The funny part is the name reminds me of Air Master (which is incidentally the best thing ever, making sakiyama kaori the best PART of the best thing ever)
True that the majority of shoujo manga isn't very good, just as it is with shounen manga.
There are also plenty of shoujo manga which go against the sterotypes. I'll think about making a list of the ones I know later.

Yeah, that's where it's from. I love that show, and she's one of my favorite characters from it.
There is a lot of quite banal manga out there on all ends of the spectrum. Sometimes the artists and creators create their own niche by creating their own personal style that sticks out from the rest. Sailor Moon began as a stereotypical shoujo manga but then it went on to become something of its own. Mars, does not have all skinny, freakish males, in fact the main male protagonist is broad shouldered, slim, but well formed, this is the same with the cast of Fushigi Yuugi. Females generally prefer something that appeals aesthetically, just like men do. Whereas with men it's a vapid, busty bimbo, or in the case of my little brother, a bubbly, mothery, kind type, and sometimes even overly muscled female characters like Giovanna I believe her name was from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. With women it tends to be more along the lines of a handsome man, whose temperment ranges from a dashing and romantic figure from a novel, to the short tempered asshole who is emotionally inept for the fact that he doesn't want to show his feelings for the sake of keeping up his front, to the moody, angsty, mystery men with pasts.
Shoujo mangas for one definitely focus more on background and character developement than most shounen manga. So while you look at anime and manga with the skinny men who look nearly like women, also remember that the ideal of male beauty over there is Gackt Camui, a total sex symbol who pushes gender limits in the way he acts and dresses. He's girl pretty and he is seen as a huge source of virility. It's simply a difference between eastern and western thought that happens to be rubbing off a bit more on western people.
I just picked up Hanakimi and started laughing uncontrollably because the manga begins with the heroine running late for school and bumping into the person she'll be having a romantic relationship with. Even a Monkey Can Draw Manga, bitch.
