I'm just curious about everybody's thoughts on this manga series. I think the characters make the story, especially Ichi and Kakihara. So... let me know what you all think about this series.

i thought he ending was pretty funny for the manga. the movie i haven't seen. i'm pretty confused and unsure of what to think of that book, though.

Koroshiya is the funniest manga I've ever read. Shame about the film ending differntly.
What bugs me is how most people can't see past the gore in the film and just treat it like a exploitation flick. More fool them, I guess.

Looking at Miike's film through the prism of Western pop culture I interpreted it as pointing out how the concept of superheroes is largely an outlet for sado-masochistic impulses even though they largely end up being the personification of impotence.

I finally got around to reading the manga. Wow. It's awesome. I'm tempted to say it's MORE brutal than Miike's film.

Oh it's FAR more brutal than Miike's film if you ask me. The scenes adapated by the film are more violent in the manga, and then there are the scenes that weren't adapted by the film -- cock-splitting anyone?

Those psycho twins really shocked me. I mean in the film they seemed kinda tacked on but the manga really fleshes them out and their behavior makes Kakihara seem downright restrained by comparison. I actually winced in pain when that girl got her nipples sliced off.
Btw, has anybody seen the Ichi the Killer oav yet?
