Best New Anime of Current Season

Name: l3reakManX 2004-12-24 23:59

What are you guys liking best of the new shows this season? Personally, Gankutsuou & Genshiken are both pretty fresh and very well made. Other than that, Bleach is a really, really well made shounen anime, but... I've just seen that story so many times before, so that makes me enjoy it a little less. The Yakitate manga is startlingly good, but the anime kinda just has average video/audio, and I've already heard all the jokes, so that makes it a little less fun.

I have Kannadzuki no Miko sitting around on my hard drive - should I watch that?

Akane Maniax hands down. Too bad it's an OVA, with only one episode released so far.

I am currently enjoying GUNDAMU USHEEDU DESINRY so far as well.

Name: Snuckerpuss 2004-12-25 0:20

Monte Cristo/Gankutsuou is the only thing worth watching, everything else has been seen before in some form or the other.

Name: Chaznable 2004-12-25 1:09

Genshiken, Yakitake Japan, and Akane Maniax are my favorite.

I think Genshiken and Akane Maniax are both very likable shows. Yakitake Japan may not be everyone's cup of tea.

Name: Neko Sniper 2004-12-25 8:36

Favourite current show? hmmm..I'd say its School Rumble. Funny series with some funny charas... though you can see that its made by the Azumanga Daioh guys, you need to be jap to get all the jokes...oh well. :)

Fantastic Children hasn't been seen before.
Yakitate!! Japan is well-executed and faithful to the manga, therefore awesome. Kannazuki no Miko is trash and nobody but Portable591 enjoys it.

i'm still waiting for shinkais next project to finally hit r2... sure took his time, atleast he had more of a staff for this one

Kannaduki no Miko was a little melodramatic at times, but I still thought it was a damn fine show. If you already have it, then hell yeah, watch it.

As for my favorites this season. I'd have to say Genshiken and School Rumble.

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-25 10:13

genshiken shouldnt even count.. its got more manga hype than almost anything, evarr

even if the show sucked, it would still be wildly popular
all they really want is a kanako that moves</genshiken troll>

Genshiken, of course, and I have a special fondness for BECK. I dunno if Tsukuyomi Moon Phase could be considered a recent anime, but it's still in the process of being released, and if anything, it's OP makes it worthwhile.

Name: robje 2004-12-25 19:07

Rosen Maiden is pretty nice too! The opening kicks ass! it sets the new standard for anime openings!!

I really love BECK as well! I dont mind that their english still sucks balls even though they lived in new york most of their lives. Music sounds pretty good too.

Im still following Yakitate, but im not liking it as much as i thought i would. Then again... bread isnt my favorite subject in a conversation...

I've really been enjoying My-HiME.

Blah, blah, generic, unoriginal... I honestly don't care because it's entertaining, and that's all I ask for in an anime.

Girls Bravo

Quite easily one of my fav's for recent series. And that was before I learned of the "smoke free" dvd version. Will DEFINTLY have to check that out when someone/group starts releasing them. (RAW or SUB).

If you liked the My-HiME anime, go check out the Manga - it'll make you like the anime more, just because they didn't use any of the manga storyline. (They're only slightly more similar than the Himiko Den anime and manga.) The anime is a magical girl series focused around Mai, the manga is a harem series focused around Tate. (The blond guy with the sausage-hair girl clinging to him in the Anime.)

Girls Bravo is a plotless fanservice show. It's worse than real hentai AND worse than plot-heavy stuff like Monte Cristo.

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-26 14:14

montre crisco is trippay looking man

thats why u warch it

Name: Mis 2004-12-26 14:56

I have to agree. Girls Bravo has fanservice, yes. But it's funny. As for Kannadzuki no Miko, it was pretty good. Plus you can't go around saying stuff sucks; it's better than doing nothing (most of the time). In any event, Girls Bravo Season 2--late January. (27th I believe, but I could be wrong).

Name: Onizuka 2004-12-26 15:08

Meh, at the moment I'm watching Bleach, Yakitate Japan, Grenadier and Mai-HiME and to be fairly honest, I think they're all mediocre, entertaining, but mediocre nonetheless. Kannaduki no Miko was nice, but the only reason I was watching that was because of the female on female action.
But if I had to pick a winner for this season it would be Mai-HiME it has good animation, fanservice, mecha, panties and it has its funny moments. But if you ask me, it's not really the best anime season ever.

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-26 21:42

the ones left of this season i watch and enjoy are bleach, fantastic children, gankutsuou, genshiken and gundam seed destiny

the ones at the bottom of the entertainment-scale are school rumble, beck and sunabouzu. likely to stop watching these..

btw, anyone know what happened to zipang and windy tales? zipang seemed interesting.

I'd stick to BECK.

Yeah, I won't say I didn't like the manga because I thought it was ok, but it did make me appreciate the anime a bit more. The manga was a dumber harem type situation and I didn't like the whole bit about all the HiMEs being openly known about.

>>21
Zipang has a really interesting premise. The group doing it though is a small one and they don't seem to have had the time to continue subbing it past the first episode :(

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-27 12:01

i like BECK too. despite the bad music, awful english and general low budget-ness.

I prefer Gankutsuou and Genshiken far from the rest
Sunabouzu is quite funny but a little bit dumb...
I find Bleach so boring...

Name: Vide 2004-12-30 20:54

Yakitate Japan, Genshiken, School Rumble and My HiME stands out on my list, but Kannaduki no Miko weren't that bad either.

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-30 21:08

yeah gankutsuou wins, bleach is mediocre and sunabouzu is just fluff

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-30 21:10

Is gankutsuou good?  I haven't checked it out yet.  GS:Destiny, beck, futakoi..

Name: Anonymous-san !Co7ArOTpLQ 2004-12-30 21:16

I didn't mind Kannaduki no Miko. (Thanks for the spoilers in IRC, MrVacBob!) I'm kinda behind on my anime-viewing at the moment, seeing as how I've had to resolve various hard drive issues. Shit, I never even got to watch one episode of Full Metal Alchemist until a couple weeks ago.

A good friend of mine absolutely loves BECK, and I've seen clips from what he's shown me, so I make it a plan to check that out as soon as I can get it. Mai-HiME is pretty good; nothing to write home about, but good enough to warrant a marathon session during an otherwise uneventful Christmas break.

I'm hearing good things about Yakitate Japan so I'll be grabbing that one as well-- Genshiken made me have an asthma attack from laughing so hard, and if I could see any more of Akane Maniax beyond the first episode I'm sure I'd be following that one closely also.

My Hime and Genshiken so far. I haven't bothered with anything else. Bleach? I read that

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-31 18:24

>>36, and others
What's with Mai Hime? I don't think it's really anything spectacular. It's okay, but not memorable. The plot is pretty silly.

Name: Averox !iX9wdiXS9k 2004-12-31 20:07

Dunno. I'm not particularly drawn into it very much but I watch it. It isn't like say FMA though where I wanted to grab each new episode and watch it asap.

I like Mai-Hime becuase it's got cute girls, a decent plot, and some pretty amusing moments. That being said, Genshiken and School Rumble are at the top of my list. Bleach is alright but I like the manga better than the anime.
