Booo. Way cooler than favourite anime.
What is your favourite shoujo series/shoujo discussion.
No new anime has really interested me in a while so lately I have been watching and rewatching older shows -- mainly shoujo/drama/romance.
I really enjoyed Brother Dear Brother. It has probably become one of my absolute favourites out of anything. Are there any other series with a similar dark atmosphere?
Kare Kano is wonderful as well, of course.

Kodomo no Omocha is always a good answer.

Maria-sama ga Miteru. It just has a certain "class" that other recent shows have been lacking

My favorite shoujo series is Gokinjo Monogatari aka "Neighborhood Stories". It had a very unique look and great feel to it.

Well, my favorite shoujo anime is Ayashi no Ceres. Really dark, too.

Rose of Versailles is one of my favorite works of anime, shoujo or otherwise. I also like Marmalade Boy.

Aishiteruze Baby is the best I've seen yet. Haven't seen much shoujo anyway, but I like the story and the characters.

Kare Kano, Marmalade Boy and Mars are my favorite. Shounen can be really boring IMO. Shoujo seems to flesh out characters more.

I haven't really seen/read a ton of shoujo I actually like. Fruits Basket is probably my favorite overall. I'd really like to check out Rose of Versailles sometime.

Is Kare Kano the naime any good? I've read the manga, and i'm hooked, but i've ehard the anime isn't too good.
The anime is really good. You have to be willing to be pounded with high speed though. Lots of Japanese text all over the screen to show what people are thinking. There's an option to add translations to all the screen text as well as just the subtitles, which is really nice, but hard to watch. Watch it once without and once with to get all the jokes. I loved it.
Might give it a go, rightstuf are selling it pretty cheap nowadays. Thanks!

Well, I don't know if it really qualifies as a true Shoujo anime since it's constantly snarking in the general direction of its genre, but the Fruits Basket anime is my choice here. Despise the manga though, because it's just the same ol' shoujo tripe.

It's all about KareKano; Hana yori Dango isn't bad either.

FMwSagashite had a kind of boring part in the teen episodes, but after that it ramped up hard all the way to the ass-tearing conclusion. Owned to shit.
Revolutionary Girl Utena is also always a good choice. Marimite is pretty burning too. Both of those shows also have lesbians.

The Rose of Versailles and Ace wo Nerae are king stomper oldschool favorites. More recently, MariMite is pretty good.

The fact that Cardcaptor Sakura has not been mentioned at all is pure blasphemy.
Beautiful book/CD Japan-only reissue of another explosive side from Tenjo Sajiki, the Japanese avant guerrilla theatre company“Tenjo-Sajiki” founded by legendary poet/film maker/counter-cultural provocateur Shuji Terayama that existed contemporaneously to first wave avantists like Flower Travellin' Band, Keiji Haino's Lost Aaraaff and Les Rallizes Denudes and that featured dusted acid/rock/folk/avant moves composed and executed by the young wunderkind JA Seazer.
