Shoujo

Booo. Way cooler than favourite anime.
What is your favourite shoujo series/shoujo discussion.

No new anime has really interested me in a while so lately I have been watching and rewatching older shows -- mainly shoujo/drama/romance.

I really enjoyed Brother Dear Brother. It has probably become one of my absolute favourites out of anything. Are there any other series with a similar dark atmosphere?

Kare Kano is wonderful as well, of course.

Kodomo no Omocha is always a good answer.

Name: Jujika 2004-12-24 7:02

Maria-sama ga Miteru. It just has a certain "class" that other recent shows have been lacking

Name: HowiePoof !HG6fkGXhas 2004-12-24 7:32

My favorite shoujo series is Gokinjo Monogatari aka "Neighborhood Stories". It had a very unique look and great feel to it.

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-24 7:47

Fruits Basket... at least it is said to be a Shoujo Anime but the manga is much more shoujo like

Name: DrmChsr0 !HG6fkGXhas 2004-12-24 8:16

Well, my favorite shoujo anime is Ayashi no Ceres. Really dark, too.

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-24 8:32

Rose of Versailles is one of my favorite works of anime, shoujo or otherwise. I also like Marmalade Boy.

Name: !DEEPjKeito 2004-12-24 9:02

Aishiteruze Baby is the best I've seen yet. Haven't seen much shoujo anyway, but I like the story and the characters.

Name: aarima 2004-12-24 11:44

Kare Kano, Marmalade Boy and Mars are my favorite. Shounen can be really boring IMO. Shoujo seems to flesh out characters more.

Name: Songlian 2004-12-24 12:37

I haven't really seen/read a ton of shoujo I actually like. Fruits Basket is probably my favorite overall. I'd really like to check out Rose of Versailles sometime.

Is Kare Kano the naime any good? I've read the manga, and i'm hooked, but i've ehard the anime isn't too good.

The anime is really good. You have to be willing to be pounded with high speed though. Lots of Japanese text all over the screen to show what people are thinking. There's an option to add translations to all the screen text as well as just the subtitles, which is really nice, but hard to watch. Watch it once without and once with to get all the jokes. I loved it.

Might give it a go, rightstuf are selling it pretty cheap nowadays. Thanks!

Name: CatPoptart 2004-12-24 18:48

Well, I don't know if it really qualifies as a true Shoujo anime since it's constantly snarking in the general direction of its genre, but the Fruits Basket anime is my choice here. Despise the manga though, because it's just the same ol' shoujo tripe.

It's all about KareKano; Hana yori Dango isn't bad either.

Name: l3reakManX 2004-12-24 23:56

FMwSagashite had a kind of boring part in the teen episodes, but after that it ramped up hard all the way to the ass-tearing conclusion. Owned to shit.

Revolutionary Girl Utena is also always a good choice. Marimite is pretty burning too. Both of those shows also have lesbians.

Name: Benly 2004-12-25 3:28

The Rose of Versailles and Ace wo Nerae are king stomper oldschool favorites. More recently, MariMite is pretty good.

The fact that Cardcaptor Sakura has not been mentioned at all is pure blasphemy.

Hell yeah! Hana Yori Dango is awesome! Finally a shoujo series with a protaganist that doesn't whine about everything and stands up for herself!

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-26 18:33 (sage)

Hana Yori Dango is excellent! I must buy the DVDs sometime soon.
How is the manga?

Name: Songlian 2004-12-27 1:34

I've only read the manga for HYD, so I can't really compare it to the anime. I liked it a lot, and you'll probably enjoy it if you liked the anime...

Name: Anonymous 2004-12-28 18:10

Fruits Basket and Kare Kano.

I heard an older one called Oniisama-e is a great classic, although I've never seen it..

Aishteruze Baby (does this count?)
Full Moon wo Sagashite
DN Angel

i really like marmalade boy manga

The following are my personal favorites (manga...shoujo IS manga):

Parfait Tic
Power!!
Minto na Bokura
Gravitation
Penguin Brothers

But then again, I'm a sucker for romance thingies... ~.~;;

Name: Anonymous 2005-01-03 20:16 (sage)

I want to finish reading Penguin Brothers and Parfait Tic. They are things that I began reading and just kind of slowly drifted away from.

I must get back into them!

Name: Anonymous 2005-01-04 17:27

I find for Kare Kano the anime is a lot better than the manga. Nonetheless, it's amaizing.

I think "oniisama-e" is also known as "Brother Dear Brother", as mentioned by the person who started the thread.

I'm partial to Sailor Moon just because it was my first shoujo manga ever.

But currently I'm addicted to Hana Kimi and Anti-Gravity Boy, both very cute series.
